Sailor1911Well, this trafic stop did not end well
Seems the LEO mistook a photographers camera and tripod for a weapon. Fortunately, the photographer wasn't killed. Clearly a failure on the part of both parties.

Nope -- from the photographer's statement, he hadn't gotten it set up yet.

... not sure the fourth technique will get you shot, the fifth example might be homing in on it.

Clark County Deputy Jake Shaw reportedly was on a traffic stop that didn't involve Grimm when he saw the photographer with the tripod and camera and mistook it for a weapon.
What did the cop think when he saw the tripod?
The photographer was setting up a crew-served weapon?
Cop shouldn't have a badge or gun if he makes that poor a choice.

ScoutmasterThe article states the photographer knew the deputy, hopes he doesn't get fired. Seems there was absolutely no threat or provocation. I do wonder what the officer is thinking now. That he screwed up royally and should not be in that profession, or that it is sad but acceptable collateral damage.

You know, he was trying to be alive while in the vicinity of a police officer.

H&K-GuyThe cop had no respect for the force continuum. Total fail. Escalation of force over a tripod? Utter Feldercarb. Frak that.
If you are afraid for your life, of a camera tripod, I would encourage you to seek employment outside of the Law Enforcement vocation. Especially if you are left no retreat or escape from the attacking tripod.

YooperSigsYep. Bad shoot. The video was just posted on WHIO-TX website.
Cant really defend anyone's actions here. I think that there have been and will be more incidents like this going on all over the country.
Why? Cops know that they are now a target far more than they have been in the past and react accordingly. Possibly more than they have ever been.
Not an excuse or a justification. Just how things are now.
