The first 80% of a job takes 80% of the time, the last 20% of a job takes the other 80% of the time. Substitute 90 for 80 if it is the first time you're doing it.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Place your clothes and weapons where you can find them in the dark.

A serious one:

A professional is someone who can do his best work when he doesn't feel like it. -Alistair Cooke (edited to correct quote)

And a fun one:

Don't wait for last call, go ugly early.

There are only two times when you can have too much ammo on your person.

1. when you're drowning
2. when you're on fire

Hell is other people.

Never believe anything you hear, and only half of what you see.

The difference between a professional and an amateur is that a professional will get an amateur to do it for them.

How about one that is right and wrong?

"If isn't broke - don't fix it".

Being in IT sometimes it's applicable but many times it cost you MUCH more because you waited to upgrade or provide preventive maintenance.

1. The measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do nothing for him.
2. If they'll talk about others behind their back to you, they'll talk about you to others behind your back.
3. If you're willing to compromise your values for profit, we've already determined what you are; now, we're only haggling over price.

That's right, and that reminds me:

Amateurs practice until they get it right.

True Professionals practice until they can't get it wrong.

These I tried to teach my kids:
1. Actions have consequences, both good and bad.
2. You typically get what you deserve.
3. Men are pigs.
