I recently ran across a couple podcasts where they are explaining how many of the popular Spec Ops guys are just fabricating stories about what they have done. There have been some recent “outings” of some guys that are popular - Luttrell. Jocko, Kennedy etc. And guess what? It appears the military has allowed and even contributed to some of the outright lies in order to help recruitment.

Even more disgusting is how the Navy possibly lied about the Op where John Chapman (Combat Controller) died in order to make others (like SEAL Slabinski) look good and get the MOH.

You can listen for yourself, here are a couple of the podcasts with info. I was skeptical but the evidence seems to show that the claims about falsehoods are true. These are other Spec Ops guys outing them. It is not inner service rivalry either, there is a mix of different branches outing them.

There are people on both sides claiming the others are wrong. I am leaning toward these guys in the limelight being liars from what I have viewed. It seems cut and dry about Kennedy, his stories are over the top.

You can decide for yourself, maybe there are some things I am missing.

I spent some time around SEALS when they shot with us at OPOTA. They were very low key and did not discuss their operations. It was my impression at that time that revealing details of operations and the actions of troops during those operations was frowned upon by Command and their fellow operators.
Maybe times have changed!

There was a SEAL that lived next to my lot. While he has 10 acres, he would walk around my lot just about every day. I let him hunt on me and he was to only shoot does. The first deer he shot with a cross bow was a buck and he wasn't dead. He had to go back to the house and get another bolt. I wasn't about to slit the buck's throat and get horned.

The next deer he shot was at the property line and the bullet may have left the property and there were houses in the line of fire.

I told him he couldn't hunt on me any more so he pulls up the property markers and mows twenty feet over on me and kills my English walnut tree.

Next he puts a tree stand in one of my trees on the property line. I call the Game Warden and the tree stand is gone several weeks later.

How do you mean? I was just asking a question. There's way more fakes than real ones (rf. Don Shipley).

If you're referring to the use of all caps, I wasn't concerned about that.

There have been a LOT of people outing Kennedy for quite a while now, definitely NOT new in his case. There are others that the good folks over at SOCNET have been ragging on, it's actually pretty funny to watch... Bless their hearts. Wink

He also carried a hatch for throwing and usually wore all black clothes.

Next they get a 20-foot storage container which are not allowed.

He did give me some deer jerky but DAMN...shooting towards a house in the background.

The person on the other side was shooting a bow/arrow with the target on the property line. I ran over several arrows with the mower and was hard to tell what they were.

Then he charged locations but they were still going across my property.

Probably. When I was selling firearms on LRAFB, I never saw so many Special Forces, Ranger and SEAL ballcaps. There must be enough retired Rangers around here to staff another Ranger Battalion.

I think the majority do not make false claims. Yes, there are knuckleheads out there clawing in to be what they are not. But these are actually Spec Ops guys who are lying about what they did and getting away with it. The whole narrative on “Lone Survivor” could be false along with the book and movie.

Even worse is the guy who may be getting a MOH due to his lying when the real hero died saving the others. Listen to the podcast about Slab.

I meet people who talk. If I have no knowledge of what they're talking about, I let them talk and I enjoy the entertainment. It's not costing me anything but my time and if I have nothing else to do, I don't mind.

Except one time, my friend and I was shooting the breeze in a Starbucks lounge area. Another guy joined us and started telling stories. The usual. Real important stuff. My friend and I was just enjoying the stories. But he started talking about having to fight fires in a nuclear power plant. Well, my friend was a park ranger and have fought fires and I worked in nuclear power plants and trained in fighting fires. We let him go on for a few minutes then I told him what our experiences were. No sooner that we said that, he had to leave before we got to call out his BS.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I watched 2 Air Force Radar techs beat the tar out of 2 SEALS in a bar fight in Germany, the Air Force guys were from the barracks next to mine. I would say the alcohol levels were the same on all of them and the SEALS started it hitting on one of the guys girlfriend.

How do I know the other 2 were SEALS, I did their TDY vouchers and Advance pays the next day. Told them they were lucky 2AD was still out in the field.

I've worked with many of the units within the SOF community, spent a fair amount of time with the guys at the Unit and at Dev to include a handful of the more well known guys. In that time, you learn that despite the harrowing missions they do and all the skills they develop, they also put their pants on like everyone else, one-leg at a time. They did a hard job, thank you much for your time and effort, I refuse to get caught-up or form an opinion on matters where I'm not involved.

Like any organization, there's a variety of personality types within these units, many are d-bags, a bunch are tools, and others are super-solid guys. Many have problems in their post-career, others have transitioned without any major hiccups. The drama-filled, rumor-mill churn that Nate (Valhalla..good guy) talks about within the SOF world is real; its part-locker-room stupid and part-sorreity house idiocy. Army & USAF SOF seems to handle things better, whereas Navy SOF is...well, there's a reason why the other units have strong opinions about them. The podcasting & vlogging medium has served to be an activity that many retired guys use to maintain contact and some involvement with their former world, others have attempted to be 'independent journalists' with mixed results and others just use it to vent or promote whatever scheme or, bright-idea is on the stove. Just keep the perspective that if you weren't there or, if you weren't involved than you really don't need to have an opinion on it one way or, another.
