She was 17 years old, kidneys failing and had cancer. I couldn’t watch her suffer so I put her down this morning. She was a pup when we got her but after that long she was a part of the family. Until we meet again old girl.

Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

Very sorry for your loss. Hard to make that decision, but good on you for putting your girls needs first.

It's all about clean living. Just do the right thing, and karma will help with the rest.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Putting down a good dog is one of the hardest things we do.

Hang in there. I'm sure you gave your dog the best life you could.

Condolences. Seeing an end to a profound friendship is always a tragedy. I have lost more than a few great dogs (is there any other kind?) in my time, I know you must feel crushed.

One thing I would do, to say goodbye if you will, would be to dig the grave myself. Sort of like the last thing I could do for my best pal. The physical exertion helped with the grieving as well. Last one I dug was just over four years ago, and they don't get easier with advancing age. It pains me that I am not likely to be able to do for Clark when his time comes. Whenever that will be, it will be too soon.

When the time comes to consider a successor to your girl, please consider adoption of an abandoned/unwanted dog.

That's the only problem with dogs. They don't last forever.

Every time I have to put one down I swear I'll never do it again...then a few months later I do it again.

Sorry for the hurt. Flash-lb said it well.

Takes a ton of courage to make that call/see ‘em through.
