For years I have used the Gillette Gel type with success. In the last year or so either my body has changed or their formula is different than in the past. I generally shower every morning but rarely I do skip a day which was never an issue in the past. I have been noticing underarm odor in the evening even on days that I showered that morning. Not heavy but slightly noticeable to myself.
Not wanting to be "that guy", any suggestions for a better deodorant from the hive?

Is your Gilette gel just deodorant, or is it an antiperspirant?

Deodorant strictly masks the odor with a scent. Whereas antiperspirant not only smells nice, it also keep your underarms from sweating, which is what causes odor to begin with.

If what you've been using is just a deodorant, try an antiperspirant. Most of the companies offer both types, so you may not even need to change brands.

Or if what you're using is an actual antiperspirant, try a different formula or brand with a higher percentage of the active ingredient (aluminum somethingorother). Different offerings will vary from like 10% up to 20%. So, for example, if your current 11% isn't working any more, try one with 15% or 18%.

FWIW, I've used Degree Advanced for going on a couple decades now, with never an issue with odor, even with heavy exertion. It's offered in several different scents, to fit your personal preferences.

I used to use the Gillette Gel stuff - probably 20 years ago or so. Then I switched to Degree and haven't looked back.

FWIW, I have relatively sensitive skin and like the Cool Comfort - no irritation. But I'll use other scents if I can't find it and don't have a problem. The stuff lasts all day easily.

I generally fit this description except I have been known to skip the morning shower if I am to do something dirty (oil change, potting plants, washing car, etc.) and then shower later. Maybe even just right before bed.

In the last several years, I can tell you which pit will offend first. Always the left. And it's not even close. It's like I skipped that side with the antiperspirant.

I figured something out. I have an L shaped office desk and it accommodates my right handed mouse preference. Supports my right arm no matter where I move. My left arm is almost always at least a bit lower or, when I am kicked back web surfing, completely down at the shoulder using the left armrest.

I even sleep on my right side with my right arm up.

Knowing that, I pay more attention to my left side. Not much more to be done beyond getting a different desk and mouse, becoming ambidexterous.

As for the answer, I'm not a fan of antiperspirant. The aluminum makes me uncomfortable.

+1 on Degree.

Mitchum, nothing else works as well for me... It's also odorless which I prefer.

Been using for a long time, had similar issues with other brands as you are now experiencing, Mitchum hasn't.

I agree with HRK 100%. It costs a little more but Mitchum is good to go. Most of the gels go into your T shirt so they will stain over time. Also, wash your arm pits good as you shower to get all the old junk off. Start fresh. I can use almost all white cream deodorants and stay fresh and comfortable. I cannot use any of the colored sticks, blue, red, green as they burn me and make me itch. Wash good and try Mitchum or a white cream stick, scents of baby powder, what ever. Good luck.

I've been pleased with Degree Cool Rush.

They recently toned-down the scent a bit.

Nope. They contain chemicals to kill the odor producing bacteria. Unfortunately, they can also kill the host of said bacteria. Some of the chemicals are known to disrupt the endocrine system and applying them to the skin constantly is playing with fire IMO.

A few years back I went to nothing but colloidal silver. I make my own low PPM solution, put it in a spray bottle, spritz the pits after a shower, and let them air dry. I've never been a bad BO fella, so I can't speak to how well it'd work for those who are, but it works for me.

This. The stick is OK, but, if you can find it, the roll-on is the tits.

I will be trying Mitchum and Degree to see how they work for me.
It was interesting to hear about the left side anomaly as that is the same issue for me although neither arm is held in a different position. Thanks folks, I have direction!

I used Degree for a long time and then it just stopped being effective. I found an oldie but a goodie on the bottom shelf at maomart. Arrid XX, it was $1.35 about a year ago and I think it's up to about $2.50 now, still cheaper than most. Works great

My usual is Mitchum, but also have Degree and Dove since they didn't have any Mitchum at the store last time I went.

I've used some type of Old Spice in the past, but something about it made my underarms itch and burn. Must be allergic to something in there.

I switched to Dr. Squatch and really surprised me with how well it actually works considering it is a natural deodorant. I work 10 hours in the hot Sun in a dark uniform and body armor.

You should try scrubbing your armpits.

I think the term is exfoliate???

You can get one of those scrubby things mesh poof ball loufah things. Sold just about everywhere. You wife probably has one. Cost is usually a buck or 2.

I have found that I need to scrub off the old dead crusty skin from my armpits. Don't worry, it won't hurt. It just gets rid of that old loose layer. It leaves a nice fresh clean skin layer that doesn't have odor.

As an alternative, sometimes I just use the washcloth, get it wet, put the bar of soap in it, wrap it up, get it lathered up, and scrub away.

Works for me.

Best wishes to you.

I like the tactical soap scrubber. I use natural soaps that are a bit pricey and this thing makes the bars last way longer and has nice scrubber that is not terribly rough.

Brut in the round stick is my favorite, they have not changed the scent or formula, works and smells great and it's cheap. Been using it for years.

Really surprised no one has mentioned this stuff. Been using it for years and years. Natural and very effective. And yes even tried the solid chunk as well but ended up preferring the spray.
