25-year-old man of Somali descent named as suspect in stabbing death of Conservative lawmaker David Amess.



The suspect in the murder of Conservative lawmaker David Amess has been named as Ali Harbi, Sky News reported.

Harbi is a 25-year-old British citizen of Somali heritage. He was not known to security forces beforehand.

British police said on Friday that counterterrorism officers are looking into the stabbing as an act of terrorism.

Amess, who represented Southend West in Essex, was stabbed at approximately noon on Friday by a man who walked into the meeting in the Belfairs Methodist Church.

An air ambulance landed after the stabbing but Amess was declared dead at the scene despite emergency services attempting to save his life.

A knife was found at the scene, reported Reuters.

Amess had been a member of Parliament for Southend West, which includes Leigh-on-Sea, since 1997, and had been a lawmaker since 1983, making him one of the longest-serving politicians in the House of Commons.

When the media was completely unwilling to describe the assailant in their initial reporting, even though the attack was witnessed by several people, it was clear who the attacker was. How's that diversity and inclusion BS working out for ya? Apparently it didn't work out so great for Mr. Amess.

Between this incident and the killings in Norway from bow & arrows, news media over here was pretty slow on its reporting.

MP's take a lot of pride in being accessible and available to their constituents while eschewing security. This may change things.

Time and time again, the media acts like not identifying such criminals immediately somehow changes things. Most annoying.

The media is hiding. They promoted all this peace, love, dove BS and have been exposed. Rational folks have been on to this for a long time.

It has nothing to do with being 'the wrong religion'. Your ignorance of the UK, where there is, like the USA, complete freedom of religion, is woeful.

The words 'nobody is allowed on the crime scene' mean exactly that. How is that so hard to comprehend?

Essex Police’s excuse is all too typical of the mix of officiousness, insensitivity, and “computer says no” bureaucratic intransigence which characterises our modern police.

A cordon can also be used to restrict an area for emergency services to administer potentially life-saving medical treatment, in as much privacy as possible and to allow officers to confirm that an area is safe to enter.

Yeah, we get all that. You’re the police and everything you do is right even when it’s wrong because you’re the police.

But where does that leave the broader fabric that you, the police, are there supposedly to protect?

Sir David Amess was a devout Roman Catholic. As Roman Catholic convert (and former Chaplain to the Queen) Gavin Ashenden explains:

Last Rites are crucial for faithful Catholics because these are the final prayers and blessings the dying will receive before going to heaven. The administration of the Last Rites is a final cleansing, which prepares the dying to enter heaven rather than hell, as they have denounced their sinful nature.

This may seem so much irrelevant frippery to a non-believer. But to a practising Catholic it is absolutely key. We live, or used to live, in a society which protected and indeed cherished freedom of religious expression. In war and peace there are countless examples of priests putting themselves in the way of danger in order to reach the dying faithful at their moment of need.

What Essex Police are doing here is declaring that their bureaucratic procedure should take precedence over this because, effectively, as far as they are concerned, such articles of faith have no place in the modern world.

And it’s really no excuse, as some of the police’s defenders on social media are saying, that the extreme circumstances of cordoning a murder scene somehow justify denying a priest access to a dying believer, any more than they would justify denying access to paramedics.

Death is always an extreme circumstance. That is the point.'

When the priest was attempting to gain access, was the British lawmaker still alive? If he was still alive, and the Priest at that point was denied access to issue the last rites, that is shameful and wrong. Crime scene or no.

Complete BS with regards to policy by the police. They knew who the suspect was, and just like allowing EMS into crime scenes, it’s easy to exclude them if the suspect is unknown, you take shoe impressions or photos of shoes and prints to exclude them when their prints show up at the scene.

Ive let parents into a crime scene when junior is bleeding out at the scene. And I’ve had an episcopal priest into a crime scene to give last rights while a man was dying on the street.(and it wasn’t even his parishioner, he was literally driving by).

I'm not in any way disagreeing with you, or your opinion about the way things went down. All I know, like you, is what I've read in the print and seen on the news.

As for the terrorism angle, I really can't get my head round the reason why a Somali, now supposedly a British citizen, might have any kind of beef with a Member of Parliament, whether it be his or not. A beef so serious that he hacks him to death with a knife, presumably one longer than the three-inch affair that is legal carry here - providing that it fold and does not lock...

No doubt more will come out soon.

Please take it from me that politicians of any hue here in UK do NOT go around inciting their adherents to slaughter members of the opposition. Politics here tends to be more genteel that that, although we DID have one lady MP shot, stabbed and killed by a disgruntled person a few years back.

Our own local MP hereabouts has never - TMK - been referred to as an 'evil nazi'. Somehow I always got the impression, from my own life-ethos, that calling Jews 'nazis' was just not done.

However, I have to say that Sir Peter was not cruelly slaughtered - in a CHURCH - by a Salvationist, or member of the the Church of the latter Day Saints, or any other branch of Christianity, but by a Moslem.

They DO rather have a habit of doing this kind of thing in order to foster their version of islam.
