My oldest [sophomore] is in marching band, and they had their state qualifier last night.

We came close last year, but a disqualification by another school reduced the number of schools to qualify, we were right on the bubble.

They run it in a prelim/finals setup.

27 bands in prelims, top 12 advance to finals, we got 6th.

They worked hard for it, 2-3hr practices after school, 3 days/week, plus football games & a few 3rd party competitions.

They moved up to 5th in the finals, and are headed to state in a week.

Their show, if anyone wants to see.

Got home around 12:15 this morning and had to be back up at 6 to get to the airport.

Congrats!

Tomminator is in area D. This is the first year the school was a 6A competitor. And brother those are leaps and bounds above the 5A they were competing against.

They went to Area last night in San Antonio and placed in the top 10 during the first round and placed 8th (the top 5 from that go to state).

Looking at the scoring is crazy some of them are separated by .0x when the points are tallied.

This is his last season as he’s a senior this year. Earlier the “leadership(kiddos)” were all saying they didn’t feel like they were gonna make it, so when they got called to play again they were super excited. But they knew they weren’t going to state this year.

Sorry to drift your thread. Congrats again on your kiddo!! I know it’s a lot of hard work

Congrats to Tom, it's crazy at 6A. We're one of the smaller bands in pur area, and going up against bands with double, or more, our budget.
We thought it'd be close. So being a place above the cutoff was a shock.

We're also doing BOA on Saturday, so they'll bus out to San Antonio for BOA, come back, then back to SA for state on Mon/Tue.

I did marching band back in 1979 and 1980. We did field shows and parades.

My junior year I decided to play football and that ended my marching band career.

Had fun with the fact that marching band is coed if you know what I mean.

Good for the band.

Smarter heads prevailed & they're going to just stay the weekend in SA, rather than going out & back twice [4hrs each way]

They look great congratulations! It had me recalling my days in middle and high school band many years ago, great memories to this day. Neither of my children was in band, instead choosing sports, so we got to watch swim meets.

P250UA5, thanks for sharing. Being over in Tomball now I dont get much Wareagle news.

I am class of '86 the first graduating class. Its fun to see how much larger the school is now and how many more things they have as options at school.

I hope they win State!
