Very nice Q, please throw my name in the hat.
Retired Navy, 1984-2004.
If selected it would probably go to my son, who is currently serving in the Navy.

I’d like to put my name in for my son, who ships off to Army Basic in 2 weeks. He’s in the National Guard and then comes back after AIT to do ROTC and plans to compete for an active duty officer slot. He enjoys shooting his AR (his only request before he ships off is to have a day at the Range with me).

He carries on my family’s tradition of service:

Brother - USCG Chief
Brother - Army Officer
Father - Army, sgt in 101st in Vietnam
Mother - Gold Star wife from first marriage
Grandfather - Army enlisted infantry, European theatre WWII
Great Uncle - Army Officer, tanker under Patton in WWII

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

Please include me. I was Navy, 1956 - 1960, and Navy Reserve for two more years after that.

I had many relatives who were active in WW2, including one who was OSS (predecessor of CIA) in Europe -- he was fluent in Russian, Polish, and German.

I'll put my name in on this in honor of my father who served in the Army during WWII, and the Navy in the post-war period (assisting with the de-militarization of Japan). I'll also honor my father-in-law who served as a Marine Officer during the Korean conflict. Both of them gone now, but far from forgotten.

Let us all honor our heroes this Memorial Day weekend.
