So I was going up my back steps 7 weeks ago yesterday and tripped on the top step - 5 concrete steps with overly large overhang and concrete pad at the bottom - and had to make a decision: land on rhe back of my head or twist and land on my elbow.

My elbow, of course, won hands down.

However, this meant a crap ton of force went up my humurus from the elbow...the humurus fractured from the distal humurus, the knob that forms the upper part of the elbow, about halfway up where it snapped the humurus in two.

This also meant surgery. And the location of the fracture in the distal humurus meant he couldn't just drive a rod up the humurus from the elbow, which he preferred; he had to slice the heck out of my arm and put in a plate and 13 screws. But surgery he allowed 4-5 hours for took just under 3 and went very well.

Now I've started PT and it's going to be months. I can still pull the trigger because I'm lefty and this is my right arm, but no Weaver for a while. I am okay with it because the alternative was not being here to post at all.

My husband didn't get the xray that shows the fracture down from the transection, but:

Crappy CAT scan still that sorta shows it

Oh, and 35 staples...

I already have three screws and a pin in my left ankle. I fly at the end of August; can't wait to see what fresh hell TSA has in store for me.

PT right now is all about stretching. I need range of motion back in both my elbow and my shoulder - from being pinned to my side for 6 weeks -before working on strength or dexterity.

And thanks, guys Smile

Fo reals, I feel your pain! I broke mine 3 years ago. I was playing with the dog, tripped and crashed into a pillar in my foyer. I was on disability from work for six months, had two surgeries. I traded my .50 for a compensated revolver, S&W Comp V8. Give therapy your all! Don't get discouraged when it hurts.

OUCH, indeed.

I slipped on ice and landed on my left wrist (I'm left-handed too) and fractured (shattered glass would be more accurate) wrist. Had a bone graft, t-square plate, and an external fixator (looked like a hand towel bar) attached. When the hardware came off after 2 months, went thru Occupational Therapy for 8 months of stretching exercises to get mobility back.

While going thru therapy (was on active military duty at time), I asked my therapist what was the difference between Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT). She responded saying, "PT helps you get to the bathroom, while OT helps you to do the paperwork".

Good luck on your recovery.

Everyone's surprised I didn't shatter my elbow, that's how far and how hard I landed.

I am lucky it wasn't that bad.

And I keep repeating that during PT.
