So a good end to a bad day. Spent most of the day in bed and on the toilet battling a stomach bug. Really upsetting seen as how this was the first nice summer day and I haven't had the tops out of the Jeep yet this season.

Finally felt good enough tonight that I could be more than 10' away from a toilet so popped the tops on the Jeep, grabbed the Bear Dog and went for a drive and saw a BEAR!

Sorry for crappy cell phone pics but didn't think enough to grab the DSLR.

He’s actually a yearling boar named Fred. Talked with one of the residents there and they have names for all of the bears so when they make a report to the state about chicken kills or damage they know which bear to reference.

Even if he's smaller than other bears, he's still bigger than me and I wouldn't want to wrestle him! Where were you at when you saw him? I take it he's hanging out around town?

About 2 miles short of the entrance to Eagle River Nature Center.

Who got out of the Jeep to take that picture with the Jeep in it? Don't tell me the dog did it!

When you say “Bear Dog”, I hope that means dog named Bear, not a dog for chasing bears. That’s way too much of a beauty to risk on a tussle with a bear. Smile

The doggie DNA test on Bandit came back 50% German Shepherd and 50% Karelian Bear Dog. Karelians were bred in Finland for bear hunting. So yeah he’s a dog for chasing bears. He’s treed a black bear in the backyard and chased another one out of the driveway. Of course this is the same dog who managed to get himself fired for not seeing a black bear sow and 2 cubs less than 25 yards from truck in the parking lot at the end of a hike.

Impressive. I guess the coloring fooled me. I was thinking something more like a border mix. Good looking dog and tougher than he looks too. Nice!
