I'm on vacation in Arizona. I gotta say it was really nice waking up today and not having to deal with the time change nonsense. And I mean really nice. Razz

Why won't congress fix this shit ? They say to follow the money to found out where corruption and stupidity reside, but I can't figure HOW refusing to fix this shit benefits anyone in power to ignore this wholly outdated and completely disruptive foolish practice.

Wait a minute... I think I just figured it out:

Because fixing it would make sense and be greatly appreciated by every living citizen in the United States.

One year in recent time, the Senate passed a bill to set DST permanently. It died. I would rather they keep standard time permanently.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Ever get up at 0500 instead of 0600? Holy cow!

I'm with this guy. Think you're going to "lose an hour of sleep?" Go to bed an hour earlier. Big, fat, hairy deal.

I do wonder about people who work third shift -- do they get shorted an hour's work (pay) in the spring and get it back in the fall?

And this guy. I do like the additional daylight following my own work shift.

That people make such a big deal out of this cracks me up.

Yep.
Those who gripe about the semi-annual time change hopefully never need to travel. Time zones -- those must really suck. Just consider flying overseas.

Very fitting word!

That one hour is enough to throw my kids off for a week or two. Did you not have children?

Personally, I'm of the opinion DST has been one of the most brain-dead ideas ever conceived of by man (or woman).

I have to disagree. I love an extra hour of light in the evening. It's usually when I'm doing yard work or gardening or other outdoor activities. I'm not a fan of standard time and always hate "falling back" after Halloween.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I will state, however, that I hate DST. In my portion of the time zone it stays light until nearly 2300 in the summer. Fuck that.

I agree with the sentiment. Except for the last bit. DST means I can actually do stuff outdoors after the workday ends, so I like it. But the sun still goes down around quarter after 8 at the latest around here, so I sympathize.

Maybe what we need is twice as many time zones. Half hour blocks. That would at least mitigate some of the East/West same time zone disparities.

Wished they would leave at standard time. Who needs daylight at bed time for crissakes. The closer we get to summer, the more pissed off I get Confused

I love DST, love the extra light in the evenings, and, if I want to go to bed early, say 8PM, I just make sure the drapes are closed.

DST-one of the many good things about summer.

Umm I think it's more like taking money out of your safe and putting it in your wallet where it is available to buy something.
You have the same amount of money but now it's where you can use it.

I’m not saying you’re wrong with your perspective. But that would leave AZ where I now live, the odd man out. I’m sure they thought it through before deciding not to jump on the DST train as the wanted to get more things done in the morning before it gets really hot in the day.
