Wade started ,fresh out of high school as a mechanic for a place that had huge machines for making auto parts.

People that worked around him claimed he was some kind of savant with the giant manufacturing machines.

If you ever meet the guy you will surmise that he's never associated with more than a dozen people in his whole life, He comes off as one cranky old bastard .

but his magic with those machine's and the tools of the trade will make him the only person at that plant with more that 40 years in , over the years.

The actual company was even sold and is now U.T.C. mfg.

Don't bring this fact up though, he will go on a rant about how they screwed him four different ways ,but the good kind.

do you know anyone that has lasted 50 years at one single job?

My mother had an aunt who worked 52 years in a bank.
The aunt just passed recently, and her estate was quite large, as she had taken shares in the bank at every opportunity and held them.
It also turned out that she had set up a trust fund for her nieces and nephews (she had no children of her own).
So my mother (85 years old), just recently received a very large trust in her name.
We joked that apparently she is now mature enough to be responsible with it.

The closest one I know would be my father.
He spent 43 years with the same company doing the same job.
He was a lineman for a utility company.

I spent 41 years at the same company and I thought that was a milestone. Nope, there have been 12 people that retired from the same company longer than me. This is a +/- 150 employee family owned company. Says a lot about the family, doesn't it.

Warren Buffett has been Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway since the mid-60’s. He’s only gotten one raise in that time and makes $100,000 a year still.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Yep, just one 50 though, I had 35 years, and there were others at 30 when I retired and based on their age, they would likely hit the big 35 as well.

My father has just shy of 50yrs of farming, probably closer to 60yrs if you count his time doing it since the age of 10. He took a few years off in the Army for some little conflict in SE Asia where he was a tank commander.

Same thing here. I started at the bottom and retired as an administrator in the front office. They never gave me a reason to leave.

Next year, I hit 50 years in the plumbing & heating business. I started working for my Dad when I was 12, worked for him 35 years and have been on my own since.

Still love my job, but it getting harder on my body. Got a shitload of great customers that keep me never wanting for work. Haven't advertised for the last 10 years and it hasn't hurt me, regular customers refer me enough that I always get new ones.

I don't know anybody who has worked at the same place 40 or more years, but my father worked for the California Department of Forestry (since then they have added "and Fire Protection" to it) for 32 years, and my sister for the California state appeals court for over 25. Me, I've had so many jobs in 40 years that I can't remember them all. Probably at least 20.

My sister has been with Western Michigan University for 54 years. She started in the Department of Management in 1964.

She is presently Director of budget, operations and service support at Western Michigan University's Haworth College of Business. She could have retired many years ago but has no plans to do so. It looks like the University will let her stay as long as she wants to, so no telling what the final number will be. (I retired 5 years ago at age 69 and she is a few years older than me!)
