I have the next generation, the 126660, but the James Cameron version (gradient blue). I think the only physical difference between the two references are the lug and bracelet end dimensions. I'm wearing it right now. It's big and heavy, makes all the other SS sport models look and feel like ladies watches.

I have one and wear it almost daily. Time keeping has been spot on. I have had it for 2 years now. It does wear large but I am 6' and #350 so it isn't big on me.
Sometimes it's a little much to sleep in and it hits the nightstand.

I'm in south Florida and spend most days in an office but then late afternoon or weekends I am at my kids baseball games coaching. Having the quick adjusting bracelet is great because my wrists seem to swell some when it is 105 out, but I don't need or want that larger sizing for 80% of my day.

I highly recommend the watch.

I've had mine, a leaving gift from an employer, since 2012. It is not my everyday wearer, but it's still a very popular choice! Sure, it's on the large side, but I like larger watches - another favourite is a Marathon J-SAR, which makes the DSSD look quite small.

Time-keeping is exemplary. All I could wish for or need - being retired means I'm not time-fixated like a businessman/executive might be.

Just a note for future reference - the ring-lock seal system is complex, and my Rolex dealer - also in the UK Rolex Collector's association - advises me to expect a BIG bill at servicing time. Dunno about the USA, where that kind of thing seems pretty cheap to me here in UK, but at least $1500 seems likely.

I don't have that one. But Rolex, despite some popular opinion to the contrary, makes a really good automatic movement. They will all be up to chronometer standards, and many will be better. Mine was within a couple of seconds a day las time I checked, and you really had to measure it over about a week, and average, because you can't accurately judge by eye when it is that small a deviation. That is excellent accuracy for a mechanical watch.

That isn't a model I would buy, but that is just a matter of taste. Can you get one from a dealer new? - that would be a neat trick. Is it used? Graymarket?

If it helps, you likely can’t get one for less than 2X-3X retail unless you already have a relationship with a Rolex dealer. Otherwise looking at grey market.

I really like that Rolex. It helped me acquire my grail Doxa (Sub 5000T Sharkhunter) since the seller said their new Rolex Deep Sea was taking up all their attention and pushed them to sell me their Doxa. Big Grin

I’m too cheap to throw 8-9 grand at a single watch (I know the market is crazy and they are really around 10k) , so there’s no real worry…but I love the way they look.

A non-date Sub with box and papers will run you plenty more than that.

Anyway, here's my DSSD JC.

I'm a little bit smaller than Timdogg6 at 5'8" and around 170lbs, and now that i'm used to it, it doesn't wear heavy to me. I also wear it high and tight on the wrist (THE ONLY WAY TO WEAR A WATCH) so it doesnt move much.

For me, pros are that it's not a SUB and gets a lot of looks.
Cons are availablity/price right now, and size for some folks. I dont care how accurate it is. I bought it because it's a Rolex.

Good luck. I have a Rolex SD4k. I paid 7k anib for someone I worked with. Could not touch it now.

The seadweller gets tons of looks. Looks good and is the last tool watch in my opinion. Keeps great time but like mike GLI said I bought it case it is a Rolex and grail watch for me. It wears well. It is heavy. You get used to it. I wear mine every day all day. It is dinged up and I could not even care.

A certified Swiss chronometer will keep to about =/- 5 seconds a day. That's about 35 seconds a week, or 30 minutes a year. For navigation on the seas its considered a workable standard.

I have four Citizen Eco Drives which are not certified chronometers but which will keep to 25 - 35 seconds a year. After four years of timing them it's close. The relative point of mentioning this is Rolex invented quartz as mechanical timepieces were becoming inadequate to time Olympic events even in the late 1950's and they were looking for precision beyond mechanical limits.

Once the quartz revolution by the Japanese ran it's course, Swiss watchmaking was in a severe slump and the certification of chronometers by a Swiss company became a concerted national endeavor to recover their market. They and Rolex have done a fantastic job of marketing their watches, and what was once a supplier of generic movements to bespoke British and American makers is now considered a world renown brand manufacturing over a million watches a year, many chronometers.

If looking for a Rolex, keep in mind they are carefully distributed and those sold in areas which might discount them (a relative term) then that is where the servicing and warranty are based. It's not recognized by other Authorized Distributors, just the one who sold it. Their service, their rules.

Apparently Rolex availability is difficult in some markets. The report from some searching for them is that there is a waiting list for them, and there may even be a waiting list to get on the waiting list. Apparently money doesn't talk, either, and may be a negative discriminator in who Rolex chooses to allow to own and wear them.

Its become apparent thru watching the Rolex forums and reading posts on them that Rolex has moved to a new model in marketing. Simply having the discretionary funds to buy their product is no longer sufficient and a large number of prospective customers are becoming disenchanted with the selection process. Since they can sell every one they make, and their goal is to remain the superlative watch on the market, it would seem appropriate to select customers who represent a superlative standard, too.

Apparently that's not it. They sell to me, and I'm an idiot. Big Grin

The Deepsea is WAAAAY to big for me. But bigger guys can pull it off. The only modern Rolex I really love is the new 36mm Explorer. That one is really quite superb. Perfect taper to the case and bracelet, impeccable quality.

That seems to be below current market price for pre-owned. Which is either awesome, or a red flag.

What is your wrist size? Nice watches, but IMO, the newer ones look a bit off on smaller wristed fellows, and outside of very casual attire.

(Admittedly, I have an inordinate amount of watches, because I’m picky about how they match clothes and activities.)
