As a 30 year dispatcher I kept waiting for him to give an accurate location… finally gave it after a couple minutes… Should have been calling out speeds and location during pursuit. I particularly enjoyed ”Holding a car at gunpoint” What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand??? | |||

Let's see...you've got a school bus full of kids parked 10 feet from an imminent gunfight. Cop has his gun out and is yelling at you to move. Even if you can't hear him, you think maybe it would be be common sense to put that thing in drive and get out of there? Not only could a kid catch a round, but what if the bad guy shoots the cop and you've now handed him a full busload of juvenile hostages? Go away. Drive a couple of miles down the road. Anything else that needs done can be done later. Idiot . | |||

Wasn’t there, don’t know, but maybe the bus driver, who just got rear ended, was not in the driver’s seat due to assisting injured children. He could have been out of his seat and in the middle of scared, crying kids before the cop ever pulled up. He/She pulled the bus forward a few feet after the officer initially said to move. Clearly was able to move the bus. No reason to not just keep going. You're responsible for the safety of 30-40 kids...use your head. I had a bus a few weeks back that backed into a sign. Zero damage, zero injuries...just a sign post pushed out of the ground for our street department to re-plant and a tiny scratch on the bumper. Instead of loading the handicapped kid in the wheelchair who she was there to pick up onto the bus, she let him sit out in the rain until I got there because she "wasn't sure what to do." | |||

Should have just driven it right back to the bus yard. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the person telling the bus driver to move the bus probably told the driver to "move up" or something similar without any specificity. The driver, like most drivers, has probably been told to put the vehicle in park at the accident to await an investigation, notify the school of the accident over the radio, check on the students, and determine whether they need to sit tight or evacuate the bus. Unlike those of us watching the video, the driver likely had no idea this was a police chase. They only know they were hit, and now the police are there yelling. They were then likely occupied doing those aforementioned things and not watching the police to see what they were doing outside. So when it's all said and done, a "Hey, I'm going to need you to pull that bus up to that next driveway" would have probably gone a long way. Don't expect others to be able to read your mind or know more about what's going on than you do. That bus likely has a camera system, so I bet we could hear exactly what they were told to do. | |||

Does “pull the bus down” qualify as a clear instruction? The officer was instructing the students to instruct the bus driver. I’m sure that went well and I doubt, with a bus load of yammering students, the bus driver directly heard a single word the officer said. I understood “put your hands up” and “I’m going to shoot you” clearly, but some of what the officer said wasn’t quite as clear to my ears. | |||

That would have been better than what they did. Cop was out there a long time with that car at gun point. Bus has mirrors. I'm sure at some point it became clear what was going on. Sometimes you've gotta make reasonable decisions based on the facts at the moment, not protocol. | |||

Yes, the bus driver was probably doing just what he/she had been instructed to do if involved in a crash. That doesn’t, however, change the fact that it demonstrated an amazing lack of understanding about what was happening. What does it signify when an LEO is standing next to your bus full of children with his gun out and pointed at a possibly dangerous criminal? (And if the answer isn’t clear to you, I suggest you think about it for a bit yourself. There are times to follow protocols and policies, and there are times to use just simple and obvious common sense.) As for, “Pull the bus down,” people under stress often revert to using informal or colloquial terms. I recall one officer in another incident who kept saying, “Cut the car off,” when he wanted the driver to turn off the engine. ► 6.4/93.6 | |||

Did anyone else catch that the driver appeared to have his own small daughter in the car? I say this as a proud dad of an almost 6 year old little girl - What a piece of shit. I hope he goes to prison for a long time. Doesn't signify anything if you can't see it and/or don't know about it because you're viewing the situation from the driver's seat of a bus full of kids that was just rearended and not a dash cam video from a police car that was involved in a pursuit. The clearest most concise instructions using the fewest amount of words goes a long way when conveying what you need done.
Just like people under stress revert to their bus driving training and are concentrated on their protocols, or people under stress having tunnel vision on those they're responsible for and not noticing miscellaneous third parties outside their vehicle, or people under stress being told to do something in a vague manner and then completing that task per their interpretation. I don't see anything in this video that anybody did wrong, minus the idiot who ran from the police. | |||
