Suburban mayor says Cook County’s cash bond system is too lenient on suspects Login/Join

I could not believe the low bonds. This is a major reason for the violence. Here is the story:

ORLAND PARK, Ill. — A south suburban mayor frustrated with Cook County’s cash bond system said Thursday that it allows violent felons to treat the justice system like a revolving door.

Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau said three people from out of state were arrested with guns and drugs over the weekend, and they could have been walking free after paying bail amounts he called "ridiculous."

Police confirm they arrested three convicted felons from Arizona who were allegedly selling heroin and meth at the corner of 71st Court and 159th Street in Orland Park on Saturday.

According to police, 28-year-old Hector Acosta-Feliz was found behind the wheel of a pickup truck with crystal meth in his hand. In the passenger side was 45-year-old Taurence Lopez, who allegedly left a loaded 9 millimeter hand gun on the floorboard after getting out of the truck. And police say 26-year-old Johnnie Lee hopped out of the backseat, where investigators found a loaded 40-caliber gun.

Police say they found small amounts of heroin on all three men, and a search of the car found a third loaded gun and plastic-wrapped heroin. All three were arrested and charged, then taken to Cook County criminal court house, where Pekau says they were given cash bail of $2,500, $1,500 and $300.

"It makes absolutely zero sense. I don’t think there’s one person in the area who thinks it makes sense to let convicted felons with heroin and meth with guns back out on our streets,” Pekau said. "There’s a lot of terms you could use: ludicrous, stupid, insane. "

He’s calling on Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx to fix what he calls a broken system.

“I think the states attorney needs to clean up their office and start focusing on crime like that said they would. Get criminals off the streets,” Pekau said. “They pay lip service to violent crime, they politicize gun violence, yet we don’t enforce basic gun laws that are on the books. Convicted felon, has guns, and we let him back out on the street."

The state’s attorney's office says it requested a bail review and worked with Orland Park police to obtain warrants that led to another search — during which police say they found more drugs — and now all three suspects are being held without bond.

However, the mayor says when it takes a second case to hold convicted felons on serious drugs and weapons charges, the system is broken.

“We see it all the time where people are let out on low bond or no bond, they’re let out on i-bond, electronic monitoring and they turn around and commit another crime. The people of Cook County, the people of Illinois deserve better,” Pekau said.

In a written statement, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office spokeswoman said:

“Prosecutors asked for a bail review that was granted by the court. All three defendants were ordered held without bail, and they remain in custody today. We were pleased to assist our law enforcement partners at the Orland Park Police Department secure multiple search warrants for this case as part of our commitment to public safety and justice.”

Here you go, everything you need to know about crime in Chicago ( and other liberal progressive bastions of non incarceration movement):

Crime in Wrigleyville & Boystown aka CWB

The only news blog actually covering this shit.

If you read The Second City Cop Blog , it refers to CWB a lot.

I grew up in the city and thankfully my parents moved to the suburbs and I went to high school in Orland Park. There are lots of people in that area who are really tired of the Chicago crap and would like to be part of Lake County. I am glad that this is getting some publicity by WGN, not hidden under the carpet somewhere. Cops are not the problem..

Mayor, I hate to break it to you, but Kimmy IS THE BROKEN SYSTEM!

Orland used to be a beautiful suburb, but it's slowly turning. I have cousins out there, and they're looking at leaving soon! I'm out that way a lot. The last few years, the Orland Mall has gone down hill.

But those damn criminals that actually committed awful crimes.... They get off scott free...

How this is such a difficult concept, to think that criminals are going to commit crimes, because they are BY DEFINITION CRIMINALS.... is beyond me.

Well, Kev, liberals, especially here think that they are just poor, misunderstood people that need a second chance. Or a third, fourth, eighty-seventh, one hundred and eleventh...

They are no longer "criminals", they are "Judicially Challenged"

They keep making excuses for their behavior, but never hold them accountable for anything. And are untouchable when it comes for the victims of the second or third crime to sue for damages.
Fuckin' sad state of affairs.

I wonder what the scenario would be if they just happened to nab some Joe Average with a concealed carry weapon. A guy with a family, no record. Just has a weapon to protect himself and his family in the sewer of Cook county.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Most of you have no idea how bad it is here. How about probation for throwing your baby out of the window from the 10th floor of your apartment building? Yup,happened here last year. How about I bonds for attempt murder or agg batt? Common. They used to say that you have to kill someone around here to get put in jail. Now that's not even true anymore. That is the result of having people like Kim Foxx as the States Attorney and Tim Evans as the Chief Judge. And yet the Democratic Party just endorsed Foxx for re-election. And I expect that she will win. Oh, I almost forgot. Word is that Kim Foxx will plead the 5th if she is called to testify in the Smollet case. Can anyone here recall a States Attorney, a District Attorney or an Attorney General taking the 5th if called to testify in court? I can't. But it probably will happen here.

Hilarious! He's calling on the very people that created this "broken system" to "fix" it??? Roll Eyes

I doubt that he has much hope that it will be fixed. He is calling them out, something that does not happen much in Cook County.

Here's a huge chunk of the problem-
Judge Evans (Chief Judge in Cook Co)
Toni Prickwinkle
Kim Foxx
Lori Lightfoot
(Formerly) Rahm Emanual

They're all in charge, and they are the "reformer" type and truly believe in the sjw bullshit.
Prickwinkle, Evans and Foxx actually have stated that there are "too many black and brown people in jail" and are taking drastic steps to change that. Like letting them out of jail.
The only reason I tossed Rahm in that list is because he pandered to those assholes in order to try to stay in office, and somewhat mitigate the problems after the McDonald shooting.

Trust me, this IS NOT THE FIRST low bond case...
This shit happens all the time. By "all the time", I'm talking about on a daily basis.

Here's a good one for ya-

You are right about that. That sort of stuff happened here for a time. Fifty bucks and a toaster was the mantra. It took some time to clean that up, but this is not Chicago.

CPDSIG: Can't you see that Dionte is turning his life around. Hasn't been convicted of a murder in 10 years. Give the guy a break.

What a system you have up there. Sure glad I moved away after college 40+ years ago. Still have family in the Suburbs, several LEO's.

Yep. My brother is a firefighter in the burbs. Left after college as well. Visits only, not extended stay. Miss the city sometimes.

They use the percentage of the entire population to argue this. However, when you look at the crimes committed by each group, the “too many...” is explained. Plus, most of the crimes are same race on same race.
