A friend did something for me and likes it. I want to buy him some and I have no idea what to get him. I would like something good. As I am sure he knows it well. Does not need to off the charts expensive. Just something he would appreciate. All I know is black velvet! When it comes to this stuff.

If you live in an area where Costco sells liquor I’d also get a bottle of their Kirkland brand. It’s amazing and as a fan of Crown I’m glad someone turned me on to it because it’s way cheaper. Still get the Crown though since it’s a gift.

Regular Crown Royal is well known, but it is only fair as whiskey goes. If he mixes it into coke, it is fine, but straight or in a cocktail like a Manhattan you can do better, for not much more money.
Does he like rye-based Canadians? Try Whistle Pig or the Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye.

+1 on Costco Kirkland Crown (but NOT as a gift). Here in CO it's $20 per 1.5L. Crown is ~$23 per fifth at the local liquor store.
