A friend did something for me and likes it. I want to buy him some and I have no idea what to get him. I would like something good. As I am sure he knows it well. Does not need to off the charts expensive. Just something he would appreciate. All I know is black velvet! When it comes to this stuff.

Thanks.

I would get him a bottle of Crown.

If you live in an area where Costco sells liquor I’d also get a bottle of their Kirkland brand. It’s amazing and as a fan of Crown I’m glad someone turned me on to it because it’s way cheaper. Still get the Crown though since it’s a gift.

Regular Crown Royal is well known, but it is only fair as whiskey goes. If he mixes it into coke, it is fine, but straight or in a cocktail like a Manhattan you can do better, for not much more money.

Does he like rye-based Canadians? Try Whistle Pig or the Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye.

The Maple Crown is nice. With a little coke, it's like a liquid pancake.

Special Reserve is great, but good old purple bag stuff works.

Pendleton is a good alternative as well (everyone's had Crown).

Pendleton would be my choice as well. Better than Crown, reasonable priced. If the receiver likes whiskey, they will not be unhappy with it.

Pendleton - that's my 'grilling/smoking cigars' whiskey. I like Canadian whiskey in general.

Windsor - up north at the cabin where quantity is more important that quality.

Pendleton - grilling/cigar whiskey

Templeton - special occasions - (not canadian)

+1 on Costco Kirkland Crown (but NOT as a gift). Here in CO it's $20 per 1.5L. Crown is ~$23 per fifth at the local liquor store.

VO Gold is also good and not that common. About the same price as Crown. I have never been disappointed when someone gave me Crown.

I lived in Canada for 10 years back in the 70s, and let me tell you that Canadian whiskey is dangerous. The sugar will kill you the next day.
