My garage door opener does not like LED bulbs.

Back when they first talked about discontinuing incandescent bulbs (2004?), I laid in about 10 cases of 60,75,&100 watt GE bulbs. I then switched out to all LED. My wife has been giving me crap ever since. I now hide them in the shop attic so she can’t see them. Maybe one day I’ll sell them.

LED Bulbs do not seem to last any longer than Incandescent Bulbs in my Home, and in fact often have a much shorter life, but the higher cost (often 4x higher!) is certainly a nice 'feature'!

I’ve never heard of anyone else with that problem. Your home must be jinxed.

As a example (not 'in' my home, but I have specific data), I am the President of our HOA and each home has a Granite Post mounted Carriage Lamp near the end of the driveway which is maintained by the HOA. We replaced all of the fixtures a couple of years ago (64 homes, plus 8 located at the entrance(s) to the neighborhood so a total of 72 Fixtures), and converted to LED Bulbs. We had a 50% failure rate of the LED Bulbs in the first year! The bulbs were outdoor fixture rated for the temperature(s) in our location and had a calculated lifespan of 4.5 years in our Dusk-Dawn application. We switched to a CREE Bulb, which has a 10 year performance guarantee and a calculated lifespan of 7.5 years, and have gotten better results with only one of those failing thus far, but we had to replace 71 of 72 of the original GE Bulbs in less than two years!

Out of curiosity, does your home have a whole-house surge protector?

^^^No, though I plan to install one for piece of mind at some point, probably when I get around to installing the CB Interlock Kit(s) for feeding my panel(s) with a Generator. We actually have VERY stable power here, and with underground utilities we rarely lose power, plus I've got good end point surge protection in front of everything important.

The reason I bring it up is because of your experience with LED bulbs. You may have stable power, but you may be in an area that has lots of transient voltage events. In fact, 80% of transient voltages originate from within your home. I’m thinking that installing a SPD in your panel might help those LED bulbs last longer. There’s also the electronics in your stove, fridge, and washer/dryer that would benefit from a SPD.
