A strange car with a yellow strobe has been slooowwlly cruising through the neighborhood the last several days. Pulled into the drive an hour or so ago and it's the fiber optic internet company! (Fidium).

They were out there hanging the cable not that long ago, I had hopes of seeing some action on actually getting fiber service maybe by late Summer/early Fall.

MUCH to my surprise, they'll be here to hook us up next Friday! DirecTV, phone and internet all from one company. I'm currently paying $130/month for phone/DSL Internet and $110-ish for DTV. Hopefully single-source will be a tad cheaper.

We've been fighting crappy reception on the satellite for months, drops out if it even sprinkles, much less actually rains. This should be awesome!

What kind of download/upload speeds do you have currently and what are you expecting with the fiber?

2.5mbps down, .5 up Frown

Not sure what the fiber numbers will be, but significantly better than that I'd assume!

Looks like they start at 100mbps.

That's a nice improvement.

We just switched over to fiber internet (Ripple) last night.
The download speeds are over 100Mb faster and the upload speeds are over 200Mb faster.

PLUS their monthly rate is about $10 cheaper and is guaranteed for 5 years.

We are having one hell of a thunderstorm here and so far it hasn’t had any effect on service!

I keep hearing rumors of that happening on my dead end street, but nothing yet.

Got some numbers in my "Welcome" email today.

1 Gig up/down (advertised max, actual depends on equipment and other factors) and phone: $70/month plus taxes. That's $50-ish a month cheaper than my current DSL/Landline.

They'll also transfer our (actually the wife's, I never watch) current DirecTV from satellite to internet. Assuming the same package, I expect there'll be no change there.

Yep. Going from 2.5 mb to 1 gig up/down, your (almost assuredly) older and slower router will now be the limiting factor.

You'll definitely want to replace it to take advantage of that speed. Unless you're already going to be buying/renting one through them as part of the package.

Wow you are getting ripped off. I pay $49.99 taxes included for 300mbps ↑/↓. I don't need phone or cable.

Yeah... $130 for 2.5 mbps is atrocious.

I pay $60 for 500 mbps. I could bump up to 1 gbps for $10 more.

Yet still no fiber for me down here Mad

Our Spectrum goes to 400mbs, but I'd rather not be paying the $360+ that were paying for everything (Cable/Internet/Phone)

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

After announcing fiber was beginning to be installed 4 years ago, we finally got hooked up a week before we left last summer. We’ve been up for a month so far this summer and no one has complained about the internet. The kids are taking online college classes with zoom meetings and such. Plus, we’re 100% streaming TVs; local channels and all with 10 people at a time.

Funny thing is at home in Florida, a fiber company started a few months ago, no announcements or anything and they’re ready to hook us up already. That’ll solve my Comcast problems.

The best thing about fiber is the wicked fast upload speeds.

To be clear, the $130 includes phone service. According to the bill, the DSL is $58 of that.

We got fiber last October. We have a 100Mbs connection which is 5 times faster than the cell connection it replaced. We can get gig speeds but have no need for it
To those saying the price is high, you probably have never lived with zero high speed options.
We had a POTS line that cost $57 a month and it didn’t work every time it rained. Internet and VOIP for about $105 a month which is about $80 cheaper than the 2 seperate services. Price is supposed to be going down or they will offer us gig service for the same price
