It was Saturday, April 13, 1974. I was flying an Aero Commander 520 (same model as the photo), round trip from Chicago's Midway Airport to Valparaiso, Indiana. There were three passengers on board. One of them, a really gorgeous young lady, was sitting in the co-pilot seat. It took me a while to work up the courage to ask her to have dinner with me that night. We went to a little hole-in-the-wall place in Chicago, the Tap Root Pub, where I could afford the six dollar lobsters. This coming Saturday, April 13, 2024, Mrs. V-Tail and I will go out for lobster, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the day that we met. This message has been edited. Outstanding! Debbie and I love both of you as family. L'chiam! "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . OOPS! Good catch, thank you. I fixed it. My excuse: There are two anniversary dates on my calendar. We met in April -- that's the subject of this thread. The other anniversary is May. Five years after we met, we were married in May. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

October 20, 1971. Stretch DC-8 charter departing Cam Rahn Bay, South Vietnam with about 200 other guys returning home. I will never forget the pilot announcing that we were leaving the airspace of Vietnam, very welcome announcement. A refueling stop in Japan, then on to Alaska, next stop Seattle. Military charters featured very limited seating comfort, no real in-flight services like commercial airlines of the time. I will still climb aboard and do the 33 hours going home to the real world. Smarter than the average bear |
So you met on Saturday APRIL 13, 1974, not MAY 13, 1974, which was not a Saturday? Not to give you a hard time; for a minute I was trying to figure out if you were just celebrating a month early. Most importantly, congratulations! My wife and I made 40 years last July, and I told everyone that either one or both of us deserved a medal.

Yeah, senior moment / brain fart. We met on Saturday, April 13. We were married five years later, in May. I erroneously typed "May" when I was referring to the date that we met, I should have said "April." D'oh! So, 50 years together as of this coming Saturday, and next month (May) it will be 45 years married. Congratulations on your forty! הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

44 years ago I spent a week in L. A. County with a lady we watched the Whales migrate, we went to Disney and Sea World, drove the coast Highway saw Hearst castle. She asked me at the airport to think about coming back , Permanently . My arrival in cedar rapids , iowa helped me decide, It was 24 degrees with five inches of snow on the tarmac, I called her that night and said " see you in five days". I wish we would have married, she said no twice when I asked her. But here we're are today.different people by still making life's transitions together. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Congratulations on your anniversary. My wife and I just celebrated our 40th anniversary. I had come home on leave from Okinawa and we have been together since. It is a blessed / lucky / fortunate (pick your word) person that finds a life partner. On a side note, are you familiar with Bob Hoover? Mr. Hoover used to fly a Commander at airshows.
