-5 F here this morning. More snow than usual for this time of year, were city and county road crews are barely keeping up. We do have to leave the house today for a family brunch, then go visit MIL in hospital tomorrow. I don't want to go anywhere until Monday(work) and that's debatable, But my better half says we go! Same here and I only have about an inch of snow on the ground. There's some ice but people are idiots here. Like they've never seen snow before.
I do have to go out today to get gas but I don't plan on doing anymore driving other than that. Cook myself Christmas Eve supper and that'll be it.

Had to get my son to DIA early Friday morning. Pack in places and clear, but really cold. No problems up and back.

46 car pile up on the interstate between Cincinnati and Louisville killed 4 and left countless people stranded in those temps and running out of gas.

I try to gas up at 3/4 tank in those situations but still can’t imagine sitting in one spot all day with subzero wind chills. Hanging it out there to go in those temps would sure wake you up.

As luck would have it the interstates and pretty much every other road was closed by 21:00 Thursday. Vacation started a day early, no driving for me. Things opened back up this morning.

I've had two winter condition drives from St. Peter into Minneapolis. Must say the Minnesota plows get it done.

I drove on Christmas Eve to the gun store where I work. It's a regular deal, we have drinks and treats for the customers and the boss puts out a spread for us all to eat. It was very slow going in on country roads, 4 wheeled it most of the way and drove at about 25 MPH. Once I hit town, there had been enough traffic that the roads were fairly clear. I did avoid the 55MPH state road that passes as a city freeway and drove thru town and the college campus. Coming home wasn't bad, but it still required bit of the old 4W action. I do wish, however, my fellow drivers would understand that 4 wheel go ain't 4 wheel stop.

I went out to do a couple of things on the 23rd. he roads weren't good, but they weren't awful. The cold was the worst. It was about -7 and being outside for more than a moment in the wind really sucked.

Yesterday I had to go out around 8am. It was just below zero, but the roads were cleared. The best part was that there was no one out and about yet. I was able to get in and out of the post office and had the place to myself.

Me after coming home from work Friday. Passed 3 vehicles that slid off the highway:

Porsche Panamera
Range Rover
Merc G-Wagen

All I need is RWD, a manual transmission, and traction control. Don't even have snow tires. Experience and skill kept me on the road.

I drove across Missouri on Thursday when it hit.
Stuck the FJ in 4wd and ran 75-80 all the way. I grew up in Nebraska back in the early '70s, wasn't squat.

Back in the day I had a VW bug with retread snow tires. Things were exciting driving long distances on Wisconsin back roads. Well before cell phones so you kept blankets and survival gear in the backseat. The plan was to walk to a farmhouse if you ran off the road. On good days you saw maybe one other car on the road.
