chellim1Failed Venezuelan overthrow attempt goes sideways...badly
quote:
Apparently they were trying to stand up a 300 man force of ex-Venezuelan military soldiers.
I spent time thinking about it and I think you 'could' take down Venezuela w/ 300 men.
But they would have to be the right men working in concert with a 'legitimate' opposition leader. Extensive training in night operations with satellite comms and light anti-tank capability.
Planning and execution would have to be right on the money -- no room for error. 15-20 man strike teams simultaneously taking down key nodes at 0200hrs on D-day. Intel on precisely where Maduro was on the night of the take-down would have to be 110%. Weeks of rehearsals. etc etc
It would be possible. Of course keeping 300 people quiet during planning and preparation would be difficult.
Right about intel on precisely where Maduro was on the night of the take-down... and that's difficult to plan for because it could be so many different places.

I REALLY hope this wasn't a CIA botch job. That would be really embarrassing.

But using official channels to help these guys screams out that the US gov't. was in on it. If the US gov't. had nothing to do with it, the ringleaders are where they belong and will have to wait things out.
to fuck something up this good you need the full support of the FBI

These guys were amateurs at Unconventional Warfare. While well versed in Direct Action tactics and planning, given their backgrounds with CIF/CRF teams, they were clueless in the larger picture. Even their OPSEC was porous and vetting/securing involved participants was...bad
Ex-Green Berets tried to recruit this vet for a failed coup. Now he's speaking out. quote:
While Silvercorp was working out of the camp in Jamaica, they now had acquired several boats, all without VHF radios, electronic beacons and other necessities. Venezuelan exiles could come and go from the camp as they please, operational security was non-existent but Goudreau appeared confident in their allegiance according to the source who spoke to Connecting Vets.
So dumb, they even posted on Twitter

Real high-speed
