84 is a good run, covid or not. He was the squishiest of squishy Republicans which is the extent that I will criticize the man at the moment.

He was reportedly fully vaccinated by the way. If they're really blaming the Chinese flu for his death, that doesn't speak well for the vaccine. Still, 84 ain't too bad.

I respected that I never knew how much of a liberal he was until after he took off the uniform. Many of today’s military leaders could learn from that example.

I think it's safe to say that he had other preexisting conditions that had weakened his immune system.

Powell was a big race fan and showed up occasionally at IndyCar races to call the engine start so there's that.

Thank goodness he was fully vaccinated, think how much worse it could have been if he wasn't!

Also, I'm guessing that he will continue endorsing and voting for dems in 2024.

Yep. On both points.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Yes, CNN's headline had to include "black" and "Covid" together to ensure maximum impact rather than just his title and service history.

Like others, I respected him for his military service.

They also interrupted the story of his death for a PSA about no vaccine being 100% effective.
