So I have seen some posts here in the past, mostly by the bird brothers, about great Vietnamese food. I have a really good Vietnamese restaurant close to my work. The only thing I have had so far is Pho Ga soup and I have tried it at several places and this restaurant makes the absolute best so I would like to try some other dishes but it is hard to figure out what to try next as it is really catered to Vietnamese. The menu doesn't go into much detail other than the name of the dish and all customers and employees are Vietnamese so I am a fish out of water but want to have something good without eating animal organs. What do you recommend I try? NRA Benefactor Life Member

Goi ga. "Chicken salad". A cold dish, sort of like cole slaw with shredded chicken in a citrus dressing. Spring rolls. Rice paper shrimp and greens burrito. Summer rolls. Bbq beef inside. Wor wonton soup. I like the wontons steamed but they're usually fried. Shrimp, beef, pork, chicken with every vegetable they have in the kitchen. It's a meal. Edit: Yes, Wor Wonton soup is Chinese and I have yet to find a Pho restaurant in Nevada without it on the menu. It seems to be "Honorary Vietnamese food". ![]() Enjoy! And Wor Wonton is Chinese. OP: you could try going down the menu and trying each one. I also like Vietnamese ice coffee. In a Thai restaurant, Thai iced tea. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." If they know how to make these, you will love it. Bo Luc Lac (beef chunk steaks) Bun Bo Hue (special spicy noodle soup originally from Hue) And, how can you eat Pho Ga, and not try Pho Tai Nam Gau Gan Sach? This pho is Vietnamese food. Just toss the "sach" part, since you don't like animal organ parts. Sach = beef tripe. Q

Google Vietnamese menu - a few items down will be some menu images that are both in English and Vietnamese. You can use that as a guide to translate your local one.

Mad4363 is correct. I had to look up the correct spelling, but the Vietnamese version is called trung vi lon. They also have their own version of Kimchee which is somewhat fouler - smells more like a chamber pot than kimchee pot. ![]() . “Leave the Artillerymen alone, they are an obstinate lot. . .” – Napoleon Bonaparte http://poundsstudio.com/

First off, Phở Gà is chicken noodle soup. Chicken phở is the variant, beef phở is the original. Get the combo, usually called the đặc biệt (special), comes with well done brisket, rare filet, tripe, and tendon. Put the bean sprouts, basil leaves, and a squeeze of lime into the broth. You'll also want to try the cơm tấm, broken rice. The are like six or seven toppings typically served with it. The menu might be overwhelming because they basically list out every permutation of the toppings. Just get the special that has a little of everything, typically BBQ pork, a fried imperial roll, shredded pork, an egg quiche, grilled shrimp, fried shrimp paste, etc. Spoon a little of the citrus sauce over the rice as you eat it.

NO, just no. That is the most disgusting bowl of entrails I have ever witnessed, BLECH! A Com Thit Nuong dish. Start there. It's rice and Pork BBQ, FANTASTIC. Pour the fish sauce over the rice. ![]() Bo Kho is like American beef stew with an herby twist. Absolutely addictive. I'm no expert, but I work with people who literally escaped the killing fields that love to take me to great places to eat because I am truly interested in their culture. ![]() ____________________________ Eeewwww, don't touch it! I quite like Bún Bò Xào. Especially in the summer. It is a beef noodle dish with vegatbles - almost a salad. Sliced beef sautéed with lemongrass, onions, peanuts and cilantro. Served with vermicelli noodles, pickled carrots and daikon. Served with Super tasty. It might also be called Bun Thit Nuong Bo ![]()
