The house I grew up in was built in 1945. Our fusebox had these until my uncle wired us for breakers. Just after high school I was living in a tripple decker in Dorchester with a few friends and the power went out one day. We crept into the basement and found the electrical panel. It still had these. My friend, who was studying mechanical engineering at Northeastern, didn't know what to make of the box. There were packages of spares laying next to it so I found the bad one, unscrewed it, and installed the new one. He was impressed. Never seen a glass fuse.

You could probably give these out at Halloween and impress the kids lol.

A portion of my basement still runs on these.

That is what my house had when I purchased along with knob and tube wiring. 50 amp service.

My dad seemed to believe that blowing them repeatedly was a sure sign that higher rated ones needed to be purchased. Electrical work was not his strong suit.

Had them at my grandmother house. Worked in a few houses that still have them.

Breakers may or may not work fuses always work. We had fuses with replaceable links in them. Place went through fuses like Christmas lights.

As a child, my old man trained me to swap fuses. My Mother was convinced I would die by electrocution.

Yep. Seen them many times. Last time was in a duplex apartment I rented in the 80's. You could still (at that time) buy replacements in the local grocery store.
