When I first heard about the "fighting season" I literally though it was a joke. The comment to my buddy in the brief was "what it this, the 1700's"? Well it dam sure is real. It had been quiet where we were for a few weeks, but on "opening day" we caught a little ISAF and another COP near us got some IDF.

Stay safe over there!

From what I saw in '03-'04 and '10-'11 over there, they usually didn't hit much that concerned us, ( their attacks often killed far more Afghani people than ours, ) but every so often, they'd land a really good hit on something.

It was a very different feeling there than Iraq. In Afghanistan, you knew those fuckers were out for your ass.

Keep your head on a swivel and make damn sure you and our people make it back home safe and sound.

It absolutly was. Our first COP was next to an ANA detachment. We had a small berm and a single row of concertina wire between us and them. My first night I was laying there thinking "some eff stain is going to stand on top of the berm, machine gun our tents, and roll a few grenades our way. WTF are we doing". So the next day we relocated our tents to the other side of the compound. That place is a total shit show and we just need to leave.

I agree. Enough already. It's a shithole and always will be a shithole no matter what we do. Not one single American should shed one drop of blood for that place.
