Friday, May 18, 1979, Lynda Lee and I took the afternoon off from work and went to City Hall in Chicago, accompanied by a few friends, where Marryin' Sam (Little Abner reference) presided. We did not make a big deal of the ceremony, it was the second marriage for each of us, but this one is apparently working. So far.
Our wedding dinner back in 1979 was at L'Escargot in Chicago. I had the cassoulet, outstanding! The restaurant burned down two days later, but unfortunately they had already processed my American Express payment.
This time, SWMBO stopped at Checkers on her way home from her office yesterday and picked up a couple of Big Bufords. It's the thought that counts!
We had a short conversation this morning and agreed that if we had the choice, we would both do it again (the marriage, not the Big Bufords).

We hit 44 years this month in a similar ceremony in Gig Harbor, Wa near where I was stationed in the Navy. I took the day off work and bribed 2 friends to be witnesses and we’ve lived happily ever after.
Our son hit 16 years today and our daughter hits 15 next month.

Many of us have to have 'starter wives or husband's' before marriage takes.
I'm one of them. My first wife lasted 12 years, but only because I tolerated a lot things others wouldn't. Finally, I had enough, we divorced. Stayed single for many years.
Then I met my current wife of almost 30 years, so not 39 years yet, but 30 is a good start toward 39.

You're the only folks I know that have eaten food from Checkers!
We are omnivores. We like the good stuff, but we occasionally chomp fast food burgers, especially on a day that we have both been working and neither of us really has time nor energy to prepare a meal in the evening.
My wife sees her patients on a scheduled basis. I run a small business and usually have a much more flexible schedule than she does, so I try to arrange my "at home" days to coincide with Fridays and Sundays, the two days that my wife does not have office hours. I enjoy cooking for us on those days. Other days, the evening meal tends to be whatever we can grab. Checkers is convenient for her, on the way home from her office, and she actually likes the Big Buford.

"I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation."
