His Royal Hiney |
I'm a retired alcoholic. I can say for a fact that I never got drunk because I had a shitty day. That's a waste of a good drunk. I know how you can avoid having a shitty day though; stay drunk. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I am a very casual drinker. I'll have a drink once or twice a week, at the most often. Some weeks there are none. Once in a blue moon, I might have two drinks at one sitting. Don't get me wrong, I like a drink. Just one, though. So, I haven't been drunk for 30 or 40 years. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

When you are young - body can handle it. As I get older not so much. I still like to drink but never ever drank because of something negative happening. That philosophy never made sense to me. Partying like a rock star while in college (HS too - legal at 18 ) is another story. Those days long gone and now in a low carb diet alcohol doesn't work well ~ not so much for the carbs (beer is high, other no) but because how the liver processes the alcohol. Sort of miss drinking, nothing wrong with it if you can handle it. Only on occasion now or some wine with dinner.

About five years ago, Christmas eve party with friends, I was being fed Beefeater Martini. I had more than several, then switched to beer. Man, did I get hammered. Must have been the beer. ********* "Some people are alive today because it's against the law to kill them".

A pro would, and will tell you that combining or switching types of alcohol is almost a sure way to go from a comfortable buzz to outer orbit with little or no warning. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

Same here. I never saw the benefit, but have seen a whole lot of the negative. Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love. - 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Same here. I am not against alcohol but I just don't like it. I also don't see any benefit from drinking it. I have had a very few celebratory drinks over the years with friends, but extremely limited and never to intoxication. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

I never felt like drinking when I was in a bad mood or had a bad day. I like a drink when I'm happy and never get drunk anymore.
