So... It's not a feature-based ban like the US assault weapon ban in 1994. It's a ban on specifically named rifles, including AR15s, M14s, Mini-14s, CZ Scorpions, Sig 55Xs, and Vz. 58s. (AKs were already banned by name before.)

All the other similar semiauto rifles are fine, as long as they're not specifically named.

Therefore, Canadians can't buy an AK or AR, but they can still buy something like a Type 87 or a SCAR 16s, because they're not specifically an AK or AR (or a direct clone) even though they're functionally nearly identical. Roll Eyes

Tac I think many would agree with me that although we don’t always see eye to eye we enjoy your point of view from the other side of the pond.

Absolutely this. You have a perspective that we wouldn’t otherwise get while still being what is obviously a freedom loving person. Don’t ever change bud.

Ummm...has it even been released what weapons the Nova Scotia murder used?

As posted elsewhere...from what has been released, its either:

A. Their licensing requirements of course fail miserably against determined criminal(s), or

B. The firearms used didn't 'fit' the narrative (weren't some evil so-called assault-somethingerother').

One would think someone who literally has control over a military would know at least the very basics of firearms, their usage and tactical deployment. For example, the 5.56 is a significant step down power compared to its predecessors like the 7.62 and 30-06. But no matter, they obviously don't care...facts get their way of their agenda.

I should get an AK. I should have gotten one when they were super cheap.

I wouldn't mind a SCAR, either, but they've never been cheap.

Close but worse. They also include a little undefined "or variants of" in the list. There has never been a definition of what this means and it has at times included .22lr look alikes or even unrelated firearms (i.e. Barrett M82 variants include bolt action guns, SVD is listed as a variant of an AK-74 etc). The lists are specific but the variants are a minefield.
Read the Order in council (http://www.gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p2/2020/2020-05-01-x3/html/sor-dors96-eng.html) Note they even state that they will hit the guns we replace the prohibited guns with.

I wonder if Canadians will ever elect a 'man' as prime minister again. This guy is such a pussy. Though they won't, Canadians need to start their own "I will not comply" organization. I'm positive they could make little Justin cry.

Was checking out FB Group CanadianGunNutz it reads just like my 2a groups. Lots of very pissed off Canucks right now. Lots of #WeWillNotComply comments. I really feel sorry for them.

That didn't take long.

It's very interesting that what firearms were used has been kept so under wraps...

They should ban fake police cars. The one he had looked perfect- How did he have it made?

What did he use in the shooting? The AR in the article is from Utah.

Well you know how it is, homedude used guns that were already illegal, or at least illegal for him to have, and half of his kills were via arson, and the ones he shot he tricked into thinking he was a cop so it made it pretty easy to kill them. The important thing is, there are people out there who like guns, and we just can't have that, so we need to punish them.

Not yet. All I've seen are reports of two semi auto handguns (he may have stolen one from the LEO he shot) and a rifle or two. One may have been - shudder - a MILITARY STYLE ASSAULT RIFLE.

These reports imply that one or more of the guns came from the US, which will send Gabby Giffords into a drooling frenzy.

As per one report....

Police said the gunman had several semi-automatic handguns and at least two semi-automatic rifles, one of which was described by witnesses as a military-style assault weapon.

This went on for 12 hours????? Thankfully no one could defend themselves. They downplay all the fires he set...including two marked cars.
