Went upstate to grandson's place for a get together. Ran into about a bajillion folks all leaving Maine after the holiday. This is the most direct route from Downeast to Interstate 95. Took most of an hour to make the last 10 miles to the on-ramp.

Went well otherwise, good food, good company and turned a crapload of ammo into smoke and noise. Finally got to put some rounds through the Kimber. I'd only fired a couple of mags worth to test drive it since I bought it. Loosening up nicely.

Grandson has a Glock 21. Based on my experience with a Glock 19 in 9mm and the 44 in .22LR, I thought a Glock 21 in .45acp might make a nice carry weapon. The Kimber and my SIG 220 are a tad heavy for casual carry.

Glad I did, cured the hots for that particular combination PDQ. Main problem was that on recoil, my trigger finger would roll under the trigger and get pinched between the trigger and the guard. I did pay particular attention to my grip and position of my trigger finger but after a couple of magazines worth, couldn't find a solution. I think it has to do with the short grip length and the snappy round. In any event, it was mostly a passing thought to begin with and is now on the "Never Mind" list.

May have the model number wrong. It's the smallest of the Glock 45's.

I have handled the G21, and the grip can almost take both of my hands stacked atop one another. Big Grin A G30 has the short grip you refer to.

Ah. That's no doubt what he has then. I may still need to check out a full-size, I like the light weight.

It was either a G30, G30SF, G30S or G36.
I've owned and sold all of the above, and kept my G21.

I found any subcompact in 45ACP was a bit much for me.
I even tried the XDs and sold it as well.

The G30 is like a brick.

The G30SF is a G30 with an SF frame.
The SF stands for Short Frame, the distance from the back strap to the front strap is shorter.
The SF pistol will have it stamped on the frame as such.

The G30S is a G30SF frame with a thinner G36 sized slide.
Buyers where making their own hybrids with a G30SF frame and G36 slide and Glock started making The G30S.

The G36 is a slim framed 6+1 single stack.
The G36 had the worst pinkie mag-frame bite of any pistol I've ever owned.

Here are a few comparison links.

Given how Hot (& Humid!) it's been, I believe the only real question here is whether it Top Up, or Top Down?

1. I double-checked and it's a G36. Now I'm back to thinking I need a 21.

2. No, I didn't drive the Vette, and Thank God for that, I'd have put 10 years worth of wear on the clutch in that stop-and-go traffic. There are times when an automatic is just the ticket...

I have a Gen 2 G21, had CCR CPII the slide and barrel.
It shoots like a 22, it's an easy kerplunk kerplunk recoil.... Big Grin

Still running the OEM black parts in it.. Cool

When I first read Paul's post, before anyone responded, I didn't know what to say, so I didn't reply. Because the G21 is one of my softest shooting pistols and maybe THE easiest to shoot well. So glad it was determined it was not a G21 after all, it makes sense now.

I can sympathize that traffic looks horrible. I was stopped on I-70 for 20 minutes east of Indianapolis before finally turning around and riding the berm against the stopped vehicles. Temperature was 97*, not a cloud, and I was on a motorcycle.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Yes, the G21 and G36 are worlds apart.

You state you were considering a G21 as a carry weapon, but understand that the G21 is a full sized handgun... It is the thickest Glock and also the Glock with the longest grip. It's a great duty/open carry or bedside gun, but it's going to be overly large for concealed carry for 99% of people.

So I'd recommend also trying the G30, which is the double-stack compact .45 Glock. Similar barrel and grip length as the G36, but twice the capacity and just as thick as the G21. While the grip isn't any longer than the G36, the added girth helps folks with big hands.

I couldn't shoot the G36 I briefly owned worth a damn due to the diminutive grip, but I shoot the G30 decently well. Just not as good as the G21, or any of the various double stack 9mms.

I'd add the G30S would be a better choice than a standard G30.
It has the G30 SF frame and the thinner G36 sized slide..

I shot the G36 well, I just didn't like shooting it. Roll Eyes

I don't usually hear Glock 21 and concealed carry mentioned in the same sentence. Big Grin The 30 - one of which I did own for a time - is OK but needlessly thick. I shot a 36 at a rental range, but couldn't get past the low capacity and especially the stupid short grip and thick magazine floorplate. I am not familiar with the other .45 models. I think a 17/19-sized gun with, respectively, a 8-9 or 7-8-round magazine, making for a slim and flat grip, would sell.

The only other Glock .45 model is the G41, which is the longslide .45. Basically just a G21 with an extra 0.7" or so of barrel/slide length.

You should, if you get a chance. If you liked everything else about it except for that one issue, you might be a happy camper with a G21. Different caliber, obviously, but I shot a G26 once and found that it pinched my pinky finger between the baseplate and the front strap. Not the end of the world, but it was enough of an issue that I didn't enjoy shooting it. The larger frame sizes didn't give me that problem and I turned into a Glock fan as a result. Smile

Same here.
My G-21 is anything but small or light. However, it IS the most comfortable shooting .45 I have. Duty gun? Hell Yes! But lug that thing around every day, let's just say "There's better options out there"

My G-30 is a little brick.

I like the thin-ness of a 1911 platform if I have to EDC.

I don’t like my g21 for carry. At all. OK for home defense due to power and capacity. I could not imagine CCW that thing anywhere. Maybe a g21 10m my for hunting if allowed to open carry. Not including uniform duty carry.
