Although I was supposed to retire a few years ago I find myself still working, less because I enjoy it but more because I need the health insurance.

Just got back from my latest trip - was working in West Hollywood on Sunset Blvd for a few days at a recently acquired landmark building.

There are so many things I like about California and always look forward to going there but after about four days I look forward to leaving.

I was born and raised near San Diego as were my parents (3/4 of my grandparents were raised there) all within a 10 mile radius. My wife is 5th generation San Diegan (here great grandfather was a District Attorney for the county).

We are now two weeks into settling in our [new] middle Tennessee home and do not miss anything, to include weather or familiarity.

Only downside - Costco is 45 minutes away (north or south) and WalMart is THE grocery store here.

DMV for a new license is about 30 minutes east (in another county) but took my less than 20 minutes from the time I stopped the car until getting back in with a new temp license.

Not a whole lot we miss about California, yet, except, MAYBE, ... (will need to think of the "MAYBE" later Big Grin)

Lived in NorCal for several years, was 26 at the time, single, the ratio of straight single women to straight single men was in my favor! Loved the weather and geography, had people fly out to meet up, the bay area was really fun and had not made the move to lunacy. Well, in the city it had it's areas but it wasn't in your face, you had to go looking for it.

Moved back east after I met my future wife there, we both wanted to get back to the sane part of the country for family raising.

Enjoy CA when we were there, always something interesting to do...

The rural parts are less egregious than the urban parts. In my little corner the Sheriff and the DA are sane, as are a lot of folks. The weather is great, the area is beautiful. If this area wasn’t in a state that is completely and totally AFU, it would be pretty awesome. Sadly, it is in a state …

Oooof, rough-area in-general.
As a NorCal native its natural for me to hate on LA, however in all honesty I've always enjoyed visiting LA and admiring the variety of architecture that exists, particularly in the much older sections like DTLA (Bradbury Bldg), Pasadena and Hollywood.

Was in Fresno last week. San Diego next week. Utah after that. Back to San Diego in June. Then home to Tennessee. That should round out my year.

Night and morning low clouds burning off by late morning and returning in the afternoon with fog along the coast. LOL

Today is out third Sunday in the new house and have yet to have any neighbors come over and say "hi."

Not sure if good or bad for being rural.

Lived in San Diego for 40 years. If it was like 1985 I'd still be there. Pensacola is much better.

Born in Chula Vista, lived in San Diego as a child, moved around for a few years, USAF planted me in NW Florida, where I spent 50 years (between deployments, PCS, retired).

The Florida Panhandle was much better than what SoCal became, but it has changed a lot in the past 30 years, mostly after a string of half dozen big hurricanes from 95-05 infused a lot of rebuilding and rapid new growth.

It is fast outpacing available road system, and short of cutting up Eglin Reservation, there is not much that can be done quickly or low cost to mitigate that.

But it still "feels like home". I may end up moving back.

I was born in Seaside, moved up near San Rafael and lived there until junior in HS. Dad was getting fed up with the 'climate' so he packed us up and moved to south Texas. With the exception of where the Army moved me, Texas is and will remain my home.

Do I miss California? Nope.

In the 80's and 90's I regularly sailed into the San Fransisco and Long Beach areas. I really enjoyed it. It's a shame how things have changed.
