Is that the case for anybody caught carrying without a permit in Chicago, or only for members of a “disadvantaged group”? Putting more baldly, if a successful white executive was a dumbass and carried without getting a permit first, would he get a pass, or would he get a minor slap on the wrist, or would he get hammered? Serious question, I have no idea what the answer is.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CPD SIG knows the best answer. As a Chicago native, all three are possiblities. Throw in the officer's attitude who stops you, and most importantly YOUR attitude towards him.

Not MY attitude, as I am neither an executive nor am I one to carry anyplace where I don’t have a permit that is recognized. I hadn’t considered officer discretion, that is a good point. I was only considering how the DA would approach someone who wasn’t a hood rat. Thanks for catching that!

There's a few different answers- Airport- and it happens more frequently than it should. White/Black/Hispanic/Asian... Pretty much equally- if you forget your gun in your bag, TSA catches it, you're going to jail. Your chances of getting off the charges against you in court are about 99.5%. The .5% that don't- they are what we call "assholes". Out on the street- it depends... I personally, as well as other friends on the Department have let go a decent amount of decent citizens with guns. No arrest, no confiscated gun. Just a "hey, be careful and don't be stupid!" (Why are you running stop signs RIGHT IN FRONT OF A SQUAD CAR?!?) There's an incident where a damn near blind man, WWII vet, avid fisherman, and in general one funny guy put a few rounds through his back door to his house at the gangbangers that were trying to break in. He got yelled at for using his originally issued rounds in his Government 1911A1. The gun was cleaned by someone that knew what they were doing, and a box of rounds that the department my have been using were donated to this gentleman. Somewhere along the line, a few newer magazines may also have been "donated" to him. There's more than a few stories like that. Race didn't impact the decision. On the flip side- I don't know where the mentality comes from, but some of these cops are brainwashed into thinking "GUNS ARE BAD!" and will do some seriously petty shit to get a gun off the streets. I.e. Do a search warrant on the house: Yeah, get the dope and gun out of the gangbanger kid's room (kid was in his 20's, still living in his father ps house), but you DONT take dads shotguns, especially when there's a few stuffed ducks and geese hanging on the wall, pictures of dad and all his hunting buddies... Lady has a CCL- but the sign on the store door has that stupid "no gun" sign. So the lady tosses her gun under the seat of her friends car. You DONT lock up the driver of the car! Especially when the owner/CCL holder is showing you her license, and telling you it's her gun... Person is staying in a hotel downtown. Room service freaks out because there's a locked blue "S&W" box on the nightstand next to the bed. "But, but, but... Our hotel policy says "no guns!" I'm sorry, but your policy ain't law, and you can fuck right off. All three incidents above happen a lot. All different demographics. A lot depends on the cop, the supervisor on scene, and the watch commander in the station. Court? I've seen white people get hammered, and stone-cold criminals get a pass. It depends on the Judge. Recently, I've seen a reluctance to accept felony charges from the State's Attorney's Office (Felony Review Unit). That being said- **some**'of those decisions come from their supervisors, and guess what those decisions are based upon? Especially with Kim Foxx as our SJW State's Attorney. But, for the most part, the ASA's I know on Felony Review really use that as a nice double edged sword- well, if we didn't charge this person for it, we damn sure aren't going to charge THAT PERSON EITHER. There's also an attitude, and it's been said publicly, that there are "too many Black and Brown people in jail" from Cook Co board president, the Chief Judge in Cook Co, and the Cook County ASA Kim Foxx... ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. Hate crimes don't happen to Asians and Asians are only minorities when it's useful to the narrative. At least that's what the media tells people. What the media doesn't tell people is that it's mostly blacks victimizing Asians. _____________

I visit a predominantly black website that has a primitive forum/comment section. The population there is so racially concentrated that all there are presumed to be black. This where my finger rests on the pulse of that culture and how I gain perspective on it. Those who post feel comfortable among peers and say what they really think. From what I’ve read there is a general contempt for Asians and white people. Some even discuss eradication and subjugation openly. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

I did my Junior and Senior High School years in a school that had a majority of Black students and what I saw and heard for those 2 years echoes exactly what you're seeing.

I went to a very mixed, inner-city high school in San Francisco: white kids, black, Asian, Hispanic, Polynesian, South Asian, not one group was 'dominant' or, in the majority. Even back in the early 90's, such bigoted attitudes were prevalent. There was an honest belief amongst a lot of black kids, that anything beyond Oakland, the land was full of KKK members, every white person was a raging bigot, full of hate and wanting to kill anybody darker than them. The reality was they were dumb, the reliance of rumor and stereotypes was important, most had never traveled outside of the city and their parents will willfully negligent in raising their kids. The south end of San Francisco, is largely low-income, blue collar neighborhoods with large public housing projects. Lots of Asian families, many 2nd gen, working towards the American dream, usually end up-being victims to the black kids roaming around vandalizing, stealing, burglarizing or, outright assaulting many of the families and kids. Police did very little then other than a cursory report and possible investigation if it was heinous enough. City DA's even then were too concerned about appeasing minority groups...but, it had to be the 'right' minority group. Being a white-looking guy my first g/f was black, and when we went out, it wasn't unusual for a black guy to shout-out some insulting comment or, get in my face and demand I explain why I was with her. If I went to the projects with friends, I was careful to not take-off my jacket, keep all pockets closed and secure, and not 'hang-out' too long. The knock-out game was around then and it was openly talked-about, victims were always white or, Asian.
