Ft. Hood will be undergoing a name change to Ft. Cavazos. According to the DoD memo, they have until Jan 2024 to complete the changeover. I knew it was only a matter of time. The only unknown was the new name. https://www.theguardian.com/us...no-four-star-general

Ft. Benning is going to become Ft. Moore, named for Hal Moore. The whole thing is just stupid beyond belief. Weren't these names chosen as part of reconciliation with the South?

Moore is very deserving of having a base named after him and I'm perfectly fine with a Fort Patton, Eisenhower, Ridgeway, Clark, etc...they're all deserving. My understanding is the naming of bases after Confederate figures was about healing the country, as the worn torn South needed to be rebuilt and a growing insurgency threatened to keep the Union army in-place for years and years along with a intransigent surrounding community. Not sure why the Navy had a cruiser named after the battle of Chancellorsville, a Confederate victory, other than there was a lot of American's that died on both sides. The people most vocal about renaming of bases, are also the most ignorant about insurgencies and are hell bent on creating a mythology of 'white supremacy motive' where they need to re-open scars that had long closed. Renaming could've happened in the 80's or, 90's when the social environment wasn't so toxic. I remember a few friends who garduated from West Point back in the 90's and returned there in mid-2000's, they were disappointed that the curriculum was still heavily devoted to the Civil War, rather than WWII and more contemporary conflicts. The Army had a chance to update itself, instead we have the perpetually aggrieved and offended, looking for victories in all areas of 'traditional bastions of Americana', the military is one of those pillars.

Well it just shows once again what this current Administration is focused on Along with willing to waste taxpayers money at ease The last I read it is going to cost over $20 million to change everything: Bases, signs, maps, letter heads etc.. I was watching a show and the talking heads stated that no one will use the new names because everyone knows these bases as the Traditional names. I sure as hell won't

Fort Cox? ![]() This crap won't stop with Confederates. Statues of Abraham Lincoln (who freed the slaves), Theodore Roosevelt and others have been vandalized or torn down. It's just a matter of time before their names are removed or changed.

If they were going to rename it, I would say they picked the name of a good soldier to change it to. ► 6.0/94.0 I can tell at sight a Chassepot rifle from a javelin.

I graduated from a high school named after a Confederate officer who was born in the town. An article from 2018 showed that there were at least 110 schools named after Confederate officers, leaders, etc., across the U.S. but that there were petitions to change some of them. Sure enough, someone started a petition online to rename my school before students and alums started one to keep it as it is. Last I heard, most of those signing the petition for changing weren't from the area, but as other schools change, those pushing for such changes will change their focus to schools like my alma mater. *** "Aut viam inveniam aut faciam (I will either find a way or make one)." -- Hannibal Barca

In 1967/1968, due to the rampant drug use, Fort Hood was also known as Fort HEAD! If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there. NRA ENDOWMENT LIFE MEMBER
