Now that's just short term thinking, buddy. You gotta start thinking big picture, my guy.

Sure, it'll cost you 50% now, but you get to keep 100% in the future!

I tried to convince my wife to sell her SUV and consider a Nissan Leaf. She drives about 25 miles a day and we use my vehicle for road trips. She doesn’t even have to go in to the office every day and often can work from home. With the low miles on her Highlander we would be able to get a newer Leaf with lower miles than her Highlander and still have $5-7k left over from the vehicle swap.

I love the idea of having a solar array on the roof of my workshop and eventually a battery bank to slowly convert our house to solar. The idea of never paying for gas again is quite alluring even when gas is cheap.

Unfortunately my wife seemed uninterested in my idea. If the moronic democrats succeed in achieving $5-7 a gallon for gas I bet she will reconsider.

It almost feels like all this shit is intentional and democrats want everyone to suffer high gas prices so they will all buy electric cars. That’s a shit idea but in our case with the low miles she commutes and having a gas car for trips it makes sense. It doesn’t make sense for everyone to go out and get an electric car.

I spotted my first “I did that” sticker while filling up. Big Grin I’ve seen them posted online but hadn’t seen one in the wild until today.

I put one on a gas pump at the station I normally gas up at a couple of weeks ago.

The next week it was gone.

New to one forum doesn't mean new to the internet. I suppose if I put up all the ego banners and sig lines that would make me credible? I have used the same log in for over 20 years now.

So far, we only have two posters in the thread who say they already do all this - and that is a very small minority. If something struck a nerve, Im not the one who enabled that financial expense, I'm a recovering addict, too.

When hard times fall on us, hard men get thru it. Up thru my generation we were the surviving children of a civil war, two world wars and the Korean war. At the age of 69 now Im not inclined to soft soap folks feelings when hard decisions were asked for and given.

Stop pretending to be the social class above your actual means and it will resolve. We get tricked into that by nonstop merchandising, but it's not God telling you to do it. Look to his enemies trying to take your money away by any means necessary.

BTW, 20 years ago this was a normal conversation and adults could expect it. I haven't changed, I just write with less fluff. I guess I will have to stop serving meat for the hungry and resort to small jars of blended paste. I know it won't help much and I will get beets spit out all over me anyway.

Iron sharpens iron. Ignore it or not, but I'm not trying to sell you something. I'm recommending frugality - how is that wrong? It's exactly 180 degrees from all the Influencers in life now. Observe the masses, do the opposite.

How about I just continually improve my career and get to the point where gas could be $20 a gallon and all other goods I buy could raise by a factor of 10 and it wouldn't matter to me? That be alright by you? Not all of us are on fixed incomes, and not all of us are trying to keep up with the Jones'. Some of us are ambitious and there is nothing wrong with that. Some might call that the American Dream.

Maybe I'll divorce my professional wife too, you know, cuz then it'll be cheaper for me.

With all due respect Tirod and while I agree with some of what you've said, the fact remains that prices and the cost of living have increased across the board...at least for me. You mention the ability to live through $4 a gallon under obozo and his ship of fools, but what about the increasing cost of groceries, utilities (electricity, natural gas, water), car insurance, property taxes, etc.. since then as well. The rise in gasoline/diesel cost is going to have an effect on EVERYONE'S ability to purchase goods as the rise in fuel costs will be passed on to the consumer. It will have an effect on home utility bills and transportation of groceries to local stores...I consider these to be necessities not pleasures.

I, and many on this forum, live on a fixed income. I limit my driving and my spending but you can only cut the fat so far until you're down and into to the bone.

Sig Marine hit the nail on the head. Increased petroleum product costs will increase the cost of just about everything you or I purchase moving forward. The folks in Washington know this.

While I don't disagree that some...some people can cut out "luxuries" to get over the hump (assuming the prices go down) but fails to address that President house plant and those calling the shots have wanted higher fuel prices for years. Not to mention how House plant cut off several methods for the US to become oil independent.

The US should not be in a position to be making deals with Iran or Venezuela ....or go hat in hand to Saudi....where MbS just was quoted in saying

"And perhaps even more interesting was his response when asked about the deteriorated relationship with the Biden White House, and whether he thinks Biden "understands" him. "Simply, I do not care," the crown prince said, and explained that it is up to Biden "to think about the interests of America."

"We don’t have the right to lecture you in America," he said. "The same goes the other way."

None of this mess was necessary...not gonna say it was planned but it certainly isn't bad news for Pres poopy pants and the Davos crowd.

I didn't take Tirod as lecturing us at all. kind of good advice if you choose it, and if not, skip to the next topic. There is a lot we need to do in our house, we are slack with quite a few items, because we can be. We are trying to approach it like we won't always be OK with the slack.

I understood what Tirod was trying to convey as well. My wife and I enjoy luxuries as much as anyone else, and have the $ to do so, but we also know how to dial things back if necessary.

The pervasive issue here isn't the how - it's the why. Everything that we are seeing right now has been rehearsed and orchestrated by those in positions of power in an effort to create an even bigger gap between classes and further cement dependency of the lower and dissolving middle class on the Government.
