I'm happy to see this. Can't remember the last time I went to a SB party and even then, it was just for the food and the socialization. I lost interest in football around the early 1990's and all interest completely in the early 2000's
I couldn't care less about the event. I can't see wasting time that could be spent building guns, reloading or time at the range with the kids.
Thanks Para!

BroadsideAre we allowed to discuss the Puppy Bowl with the Kitten Half-time show, or is that prohibited as well?

DanHLegitimate question: Can we talk about Movie or TV Show trailers in The Lair as long as we don't talk about the rest of the Super Bowl?

rat2306Me; going to church and then head down the road on a quest to check out a couple of spots for camping stuff, cartridges, cheeseburgers, and ethanol free gasoline. Last of those games I watched for any length was IIRC the one that the half time program featured Prince.

RipleyI'll be watching and I hope both teams can bring their best. Pro football is the only team sport I care anything about. I'd given up on football too then, a few years ago, I couldn't miss some sports highlights that showed a guy doing stuff I'd never seen before and playing with joy -- Mahomes. I was back in.

Appreciate the honest patriotism

TexasScrubNFL and the NBA are the two main reasons I cut the cord to my cable. I'm still dusting off the ESPN URL occasionally but not clicking it.
Becoming a 'non-fan' was easier than I thought.

LeemurI used to be a huge fan, even more so when Charlotte got the Panthers. Then they started slowly chipping away at me. Gave up on the NFL years ago. Couldn’t tell you the last time I watched an entire game. I’ve been at a brewery or wing joint when a game was on but it was just background noise.
All that to say, excellent move IMO.

Oh, shit! Man, that's a deep obsevation. Y'know, in all these years of running ths place, and in the countless decisions I've made, no one has ever laid it out so clearly.
{
pulls out small notebook and pencil, scribbles furiously}
"My house," {
scribblescribble} "my rules!" {
tap}"
Hot damn!
Although {
looks at notebook, extends arms, twists notebook sideways, purses lip} It seems to me that this
could be something someone says just before they thrown down a big ol' "BUT" which negates the 'My house, my rules' part.
Nah, that's just my active imagination kickin' in again. Thanks!

If you want to object to this or bitch to me about my decision, this is the thread to do it in. I won't deny you the privilege of speaking your piece.
With all due respect, it doesn't seem like this is the case when you ridicule someone for stating their position.
And when I say "with all due respect", it doesn't mean what's about to follow is disrespectful. It's a sincere acknowledgement of the respect that I have for you, and the job that you have done and continue to do in running this forum.

I know, I know. The smart move would have been to stay silent. I just felt bad for Nuclear and thought it should be said. I can only hope that it is read with an understanding of the spirit in which it was written.

FlashlightboyMy SO is LEO and when that kneeling shit started, pigs on socks, George Floyd elevated to God status, BLM protests, Black National Anthem and not coming onto the field for the Stars and Stripes, I was done. I haven't watched a game for years.
Kind of nice to have my time back.
Last year people at work were talking about the commercials and they asked what I liked. They were kind of dumbfounded when I said I don't watch football.
What I do miss, however, is seeing the athletic ability.

pedropcolaI hear you. I am a 49ers fan and I liked Kapernik at the time when he was just a football player and not a cause. Imagine the gag reflex that douche nozzle caused when he started all his nonsense. That was when I took my 4 or 5 year sabbatical from pro sports.

straightshooter1As a kid, back in the '50s, I loved watching games with Grandad-not so much for the football, but for just being with him.
Years later, the Bucs were born and I tried to be a fan. But between the constant losing and the antics the players were starting to display, I gave it up-all of it, completely.
Then, in '86 I married my wife and she was from the State College area, had gone to Penn State and I was forced to become a Penn State fan. She finally got disgusted with all of it and now I watch only if Penn State is in a Bowl Game.
I don't watch any other football, Don't get drawn into any discussions of the game, don't read anything about any game and am quite happy.
So this is a heartfelt "Thank You" to Para.
Bob

No, the smarter move would have been to not contradict yourself. Members say they like the way this forum is run, and that is inseparable from the asshole who runs it.
Nuclear is a big boy. He happened to step on a landmine. Never- and I do mean
never- is it necessary to tell me "Your house, your rules." I do happen to be aware that its my house and my rules, and so is whomever it is that says this to me. So, why state the obvious? It's simple- "You house, your rules" is always followed with a "but". Kinda like a member saying they respect me and respect the way I run this forum, but also make observations such as "You're normally not kind about it when you criticize someone's opinion."
I would rather that members simply state their case, speak their mind, offer up their opinion, etc., rather than qualifying it with stuff like "Your house, your rules." Never-
never- do I want or need to hear this in this forum.
And since it seems to have alluded you, I'll point out that in the instances where I feel I have gone too far in taking someone to task, I apologize, either publicly or privately, and many time I do both.

I think of you as strict, not an asshole. And I have been here long enough to notice that you do apologize when you feel you've gone too far.
And while I don't think of you as an asshole, if you are, at least you're our asshole.
