FenderBenderI take the results of the NFL as serious as the players. Every game not played increases your value per minute of field time.

parabellumThe prohibiting of this topic upset a few people. The forum lost some members over it. Most of them left quietly, but we had a couple of pretty good flame-outs.

pedropcolaSeems like a strange hill to die on in a gun forum. I admit I like watching sportsing. I don’t buy stuff I just watch. Which I suppose is a form of supporting their nonsense. If I start not watching everybody who annoys me though I will find myself staring quietly off into space though.
Me and the wife are/were huge Stephen King fans. I picked up his last book and it was so politically charged I couldn’t get through the first hundred pages. I hold my nose and still watch football. Even though I think gambling has ruined it. There definitely is cheating going on.
Ok no more football talk from me.

I still enjoy football... but I agree with you.
I can't stand all of the gambling ads. And I do believe that betting on sports, at least to this degree, does ruin sports.
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

LS1 GTOWhen the employers (owners) failed to hold the employees (players) accountable to the rules (
standing respectfully and quietly while facing the flag during the national anthem) established by the franchise (the NFL), I stopped watching and paying attention.
Even Hilton reacted and responded quickly when one of its franchises failed to support its rules and standards.

My wife and I still enjoy the
game, but not the NFL nor do we watch college ball anymore. Even though our son is grown and an adult, we will attend our local high school games, and several times have gone to the AT&T Stadium (Cowboys) to watch the state championships.

Mars_AttacksI look forward to the Superb Owl pick this year.
Instead of betting on some stupid foozball game where criminals beat the shit out of each other for more money than we will ever make in our lifetimes, that money would be better spent on getting Monteen another bird to be loved.

When I was a student at the University of Dallas (Irving) we owned the parking lot that the old Texas stadium was on. They used to let us in to non sold out games with our student ID. Those were the days...

LeemurKid that works for me asked if I would watch the game. I honestly don’t even know what day it’s scheduled. Not watching broadcast TV and limiting my online exposure to Sigforum and a select few other sites has increased my peace of mind to levels I didn’t think possible.

Captain MorganWhat used to be a sport is now entertainment. Sort of like the WWF on a big field.
I wouldnt call it a Superbowl. I would call it Superbowls. They halftime show takes too long and takes any momentum away from a team.
The commercials are actually the best part.

lastmanstandingI will be miles out on a frozen sheet of ice hopefully catching walleyes and crappies and frying them up in the fish house on Sunday. Listen to music and have a few beers. The solitude is absolutely heavenly. I have a TV in the fish house but that's for watching the Grit and Outlaw channel at night or DVD's. Three days and two nights really gives your mind a refresher.
