Raised Hands Surround Us Three Nails To Protect Us |
Just got word back from our place in Sarasota/Bradenton that we are good to go with no damage. The neighborhood front entry fence and gate were destroyed and a few trees down but nothing serious thankfully. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

Checking back in. We just got power restored last night and AT&T service came 12 hrs later. Been a little busy finding gas for our "new" generator. My old one died after a half fuel tank of running! We did find a new in the box one on some face book page the wife accessed from her brick phone in a neighboring town. Actually it's a Chinese made for Ford. Very well made and far superior to our old craftsman. Even came with chrome plated wheel hubcaps with the Ford emblem in the center!! So that was a blessing for us. We only had to pay what they had paid! Been cleaning up downed branches and trash. For the most part, it was just a very Hot,tiring messy clean up few days. I have just a little more to do once I have recuperated from the heat. Although on the good side I did drop another 10 Lbs. from being to tired and busy to eat. We did get some flooding along our river lowlands. But all in all not near as bad here as in Texas or in the Keys. Hope the rest of us came out as well as I did. I have not yet looked thru the past weeks post. Jim

There are still 2 to 3 hour long Lines for gas in Naples. Supply is extremely short. I would have thought they would have improved slightly at least by now. We are still in Palm Beach where things are a little better. The governor lives in Naples. It is crossed my mind that the pace of recovery here is being kept deliberately slower so he can avoid accusations of favoritism. This message has been edited. Last edited by: ChicagoSigMan,

There may be something to that, but my college room mate's power came on yesterday, earlier than he expected, and his thought is that it was since he was on the same grid as a hospital. I'm thinking it's just random. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

Thank you Very little |
According to the news 80% of Naples area is without power, much under water. Statewide two days ago there were 4.6 million estimated without power, today the estimate is around 3 million, that storm hit the whole state, not just Naples or Miami, every county in the main part of the state lost power. It's just a lot of lines down everywhere... My USPS is still without power, cant get my business mail for over a week now. You'd think a federal postal office would have backup power. None of the B of A branches in my area are back up and running.

probably a good thing I don't have a cut |
On Friday, after 5 days without power, I finally broke down and got a hotel room so I could sleep in air conditioning and take a hot shower and a shave. I came back to my apartment this morning and found that my power had come back at a little after midnight last night. If I had known that all I had to do to get my power on was rent a room I would have done it days ago.

Going into day 7, no juice. The geniuses at Duke Energy say we're part of a big infrastructure problem in NW Orange county... We're 79 homes on a single dead end lead, surrounded on 4 sides by working power....with exactly 1 oak tree laying on a single span. Think about that for a minute. I called Duke for the 962nd time and advised that instead of investing $600 million on failed Obama era subsidized solar and converting pig shit into energy, perhaps they could just spend a few grand and bury our freaking 1500 ft line. ____________________________ peakperformanceshooting.com

I have been where you are. Two streets over had power one full week before we did. They had a different company. Being that I live in a pretty independent state, homeowners have been known to do the tree work themselves. The last time I checked, the vegetation crew, usually Asplundh was contracted to clear lines first. It may differ in Florida. Of course that sort of action is strongly discouraged by authorities. After one of the storms we drove 45 miles to find a hotel in which to shower and sleep. That is not always possible as insurance adjusters and utility crews generally get first dibs. Good luck

I just got power on today and also have xfinity. I live in Pompano Beach,FL. It's just strange how it works....I lost power Friday 9/8 at 10pm.... I was allowed to stay at a very expensive house that my customer owns that had power and cable already back on, on Monday 9/10 and moved in there with my dog....they're in NJ. (It also has a whole house generator, but city power came on right away). The cheapest house in the neighborhood (Harbor Beach in Fort Lauderdale) is $2 million and all of the homes across the street had no power until I saw FPL trucks there today just his house and 4 others on the same side of the street. And, same with the 5 islands of homes across the little lake Sylvia with about 40 houses per island.....homes there range from $2 million-$10 million and they're very close to the power station, so I guess the ultra wealthy had no pull with the power company.....granted 90% of them probably aren't down here right now anyways.

The first step is damage assessment, then critical areas, hospitals, police etc. They also restore power quickly to the hotels occupied by utility workers. They have an incentive to get most people back on as soon as possible. My lines in my neighborhood have been buried since the late 70s, so the whole neighborhood comes back pretty much at once. Rural areas wait longest. If you have a problem at the meter it could be much longer. I have known the Utility company CEOs and they wait like everyone else. Even the secretaries are pressed into service doing laundry for the linemen.

I made it through relatively unscathed. No power for a few days and no wi-fi for four. Was mandated to work an 86 hour work week.

Oh Snap! I just read, that if you are on SNAP and lost food due to a power outage, just sign an affidavit and you will get a month of free SNAP. ___________________________ "I Get It Now" Beth Greene
