They haven't been a "stable" company for years. They lost me forever when the "Five Suits" ran things. QC was a joke (my 700V was a disaster period) and decisions like killing the XP100 and other niche products showed they were only interssted in the bottom line and not the shooting community they tried to sell to. They simply never learned. Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! USN (RET), COTEP #192

It's not innovate or perish. It's simply a matter of the suits stopping screwing around with the process that has been proven to work to produce a quality product. It happens in industry after industry, some suit that hasn't got a clue about how to make something properly promises that by cutting this corner and removing these well paid experienced people, we can make the exact same produce/service cheaper than before. And it almost never actually works that way. If they simply make a quality product at a reasonable price, they will survive and flourish. But corporate suits demand quick profits over quality products.

That's my understanding as well. It just boggles the mind that QC is that piss poor to let this continue. I've put glass on mine, so it's not really an issue for me, but for nearly $1000, you would sure think you'd get something a whole lot better. I've contemplated sending it back but I'm not sure if I want the hassle. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." I had a rep from a large distributor try to "sell" me on how the new edition of the R51 was a completely redesigned gun, a whole new redo. I listened politely, then told him that there were a lot of people out there like me who not only would not accept the gun if you tried to give me one, but would not touch any Remington product with a ten-foot pole. He didn't seem to hear what I was trying to tell him. ____________ Μολὼν Λαβέ 01 03 04 14 16 18

I think many moons ago Remmy lobbied to get the import ban on a lot of the Garands that were still in cosmo in South Korea. Guy I knew at the time swore off their products at the time. To his death, he never bought another Remington product. Wouldn't even mention their name unless it was modified with a substantial string of expletives. And he was well off enough that he'd buy a new gun a month. On a first name basis with several gun store owners. Heck, I don't even own a Remmy. _______________________ “The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. The only Remington that I miss: My old Nylon 66. It was very innovative at the time it was introduced. Priced right and it WORKED! For rifles, Ruger gets my money. For shotguns, its Benelli. Or Mossberg. I think its a generational problem with the old standby companies. When the generation of workers and managers that operated the company with the goal of quality and service either retired of died off, others then took over that cared little about the company, their products or their customers. It became all about maximum profits with the least expenditure. The companies then eventually tank. Another group then takes over to ride the brand, but with no return to the business model that sustained the company. Remember the Bangor Punta days of S&W? Ithaca is another example. Winchester is a shadow of its former company. Colt appears to be in the same straits. I think that todays economic climate factors into the downfall of these companies, but also feel it is greed and mismanagement. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

Bringing back the Nylon66 would be a good start at renovation of a once-great gun manufacturer.
