Finally! Someone in the news for having a cache of ammo who actually has more than I do!

The article says he stole the missile(s). It says nothing about stealing any command launch units. Those are kept in arms rooms; not in an ASP. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. Javelin missiles are category 1 Security Risk Code. You can store them as an E-5 but you cannot sign for them and take possession of one. Only a Staff Non-Commissioned Officer or Officer can. The SNCO or Officer then has to fill out an expenditure report. There will be some frying going on and I do not mean bacon. Lock N Load Michael USMC Ret

Concur — more to this than we are being told. A long time ago, early 90s, I was a recently fleeted-up “Weps” on an LPH off the East Coast of Africa. In order to transfer some “CAT 1” to our Green Team, I loaded up in the Slick with the equipment and flew to the beach to effect transfer and ensure accountability / proper tracking. That ultimately resulted in a situation I am unable to discuss to this day… Of course, on my predecessor’s watch, a .45 had gone on walkabout during a drill and while conducting my turnover inventory of the deep magazines, I “found” an extra pallet of 1000 lb bombs…after reporting up, Yorktown Weapon Station was like, “Yea, we have been waiting since Desert Storm for someone to find those…” SMH…not like a pallet of bombs is all that small… So, as a JO Surface Warfare Officer, I may have been a touch paranoid when it came to CAT 1… Godspeed and Good Hunting, Always Navy BMD: When "Aim High" isn't High Enough!

Uuuhh… before we crucify this young Corporal in the yard at Leavenworth, can I talk to him for a second about some of that 5.56? That shit is expensive now. And since I pay taxes, I’m kinda figuring that I actually paid for that ammo. Just a few cans, that’s all I’m asking for! ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. And after all, it obviously has already been written off someplace. I was always told that once something was removed from inventory, there was no way it was going to be allowed back in. Wouldn’t we actually be doing someone a favor by allowing them to keep their records straight? ► 6.0/94.0 “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz

There was an Airman in Minot Airforce that stole a saw. When the feds came to his apartment it was on top of his entertainment center. Around the same time a case of 40mm grenades fell off a humvee on some section line and they were never recovered.

Every once in awhile, there's some solider who's absolutely giddy that he was able to smuggle-out a couple of Claymores. This guy (or guys) snagged a top of the line, anti-tank weapon, its equivalent to sneaking out a Stinger. The next question is how and who looked the other direction.

Question for either of you: can't those javelins have been reported as expended as part of training missions? I'm assuming the launch module is a one-time use unit. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." There's two components to a Javelin, the missile and the Control Launch Unit (CLU). Image shows a couple of missile tubes with their foam bumpers still on, the article points out 'Javelin weapon system' assuming the CLU may have been there also but the photographer didn't know that.

The article says he's accused of stealing and selling a Javelin missile "system", which implies a complete system with launch unit. In addition, the article states that his text messages to one of his buyers included references to launchers:
So while it's doesn't explicitly mention or show a CLU, the wording of the article (if accurate) seems like he had access to at least one or two.

As a former MP I’m truly impressed at this level of stupidity and negligence. I thought I’ve seen it all but this is a new level. The balls on this dude..

Fixed it for you. And those who write these articles know all about the subject they are writing about. The dirtbag was apparently an ammunition tech based on the OP's posted article, so stealing the actual missile is possible. The CLU, on the other hand, is not kept in an ammunition supply point but I suspect in an arms room or other secure facility. IIRC, all arms room items (rifles, pistols, machine guns, medium caliber barrels, NVGs and other sensitive fire control equipment) are physically inventoried monthly. This message has been edited. ^^^^Tanx It was one of those C's More detailed articles: Camp Pendleton Marine Known as 'Andrew Ammo' Indicted for Stealing Javelin Missile Marine corporal accused of stealing, reselling weapons and ammo from Camp Pendleton
This guy thought, that after signing out those items, then turning around to sell them, would not result in all roads leading back to him?

USMC requires an expenditure report after range operations. Maybe Corporal Dumbass created these to cover his tracks. https://www.lejeune.marines.mi...7zjYrp482CEfAQ%3d%3d The Army has something similar, if a unit draws x grenades they have to return x spoons or pins. And it's signed by an O-5.

Realistically speaking, the rest of the missing ammo might not be ALL Cpl Dumbasses fault. 2 Million is also a SHITLOAD of ammo to just "come up missing". The Corps usually does better than that! ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. It’s incidents like this that are the answer to, “Why do we have to have so much charlie sierra associated with all this?” Without effective controls, sooner or later someone will take advantage of the laxity and this sort of thing happens. Despite what many of us saw in the military there was/is still much that was allowed to fall through the cracks of the system. And it’s not new. Authors from Bill Mauldin to Rick Atkinson have written about the vast amount of supplies that were stolen/diverted and never made it to the people who needed it in World War II, to the point that there were actual shortages on the front lines. ► 6.0/94.0 “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz
