doublesharp" Real ID "
I've had a real id for about a year I guess. Piece o cake in Indiana.
Kentucky boundary is approx 1/4 mile from my house and they don't have a clue how to issue real id's. Funny to watch their multiple inept attempts at implementing a program. My take is they can't find a way to graft the process.

PASigPennsylvania dragged their feet for years on this and now they have run out of extensions.
I can't wait to see the shitstorm when people start going on vacation or holiday travel this fall after 1 Oct and are told they can't fly.
My DL is up for renewal this year, so I will get it when I go to renew.

NK402There was an article in the paper recently that the Feds are trying to make it so it can be done online in each state to expedite things. Turns out my license expires this year so I have to go in anyway.

2BobTannerBoth wife and I have US Passport cards and military ID. The Kentucky Real ID fiasco can go jump as we both renewed our DLs last year.

It'll be quite amusing.
But I have no sympathy. The fact that this has been coming has been known for literally years, and there are numerous other options other than a state issued driver's license available for people to get. If people find themselves unable to fly come the end of the year, that's on them.

chellim1Missouri info:
How can I obtain a REAL ID-compliant driver license or nondriver ID card?
You can apply for a REAL ID-compliant driver license or nondriver ID card at one of Missouri’s more than 170 license office locations. You will be required to submit the following valid, original documents demonstrating proof of each item at the time you apply:
Identity (one acceptable document to verify full legal name and date of birth);
Lawful Status in the United States (one acceptable document to verify United States citizenship or immigration status);
Social Security Number (one acceptable document);
Missouri Residency (two acceptable documents verifying your Missouri residential address); and
Additional items may be required if your name is different from the name on your identity and date of birth verification document.
Utilize the Department's interactive guide to ensure you have the documents required to apply for your REAL ID.
You may also refer to our complete list of acceptable documents for REAL ID-compliant license and ID card processing.

The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

How's the tin hat fit? All they require is proof of citizenship, SSN, and proof of address. You're not giving the government anything they don't already have.
Indeed. All you're doing is "securing" your DL for the purposes of it becoming
real I.D.
It's not particularly difficult to acquire a fake DL.

p226gsdThe Raleigh, NC DMV offices have, at times, been super busy with long wait times. So my wife and I went to a much smaller office (Louisburg) and were in and out with our RealIDs in about 25 minutes. No appointment needed. I highly recommend going that route for anyone living in the area.

Same with me; I renewed mine about a month ago. Found out that a few of the DMV sites will do real ID while you wait, so I did real id and renewal in one fell swoop. In and out of the DMV with a new Real ID in 30 minutes. (Somehow they managed not to require me to do a new photo this time around.)
@PASig - FYI one of the "while you wait" facilities is the DMV office in King of Prussia.

And it's not particularly difficult for people who wouldn't be eligible for a federal ID (like illegal immigrants) to get state DLs in certain states.
Real ID is basically just giving you the option of being issued a state ID that is in line with federal requirements, so that this Real ID state DL can be used for both state and federal purposes. (Except international travel, which still requires a separate passport.)
If you aren't eligible for a Real ID, or for whatever reason you don't want to get a Real ID, you can still use your non-Real ID state DL for state purposes... You just can't use it for federal purposes.

Pickle RickGot mine on 2/16. Easy as could be. I renewed my license, took the UGLY picture, got it in the mail 3 days later. Other than two signatures ( DL, Birth certificate, ccw and Social Security card ) it was fast and painless. Here in PA. it appears voluntary? Some of the posters on the wall of DMV say you have until October 2020? Who knows.

Tn226Wife and I got ours a couple months ago. In and out under an hour.
I’d be happier if they were required for voting

I think you misinterpreted what the October requirement actually represents.
Effective October 1, 2020, every air traveler will need a REAL ID compliant license/ID (STAR ID) or another form of identification (passport) for
domestic air travel. As long as you don't need an ID for
Federal purposes, it's voluntary

fiasconvaMy wife and I did ours this summer and it was an ok experience. It took us about 30 minutes but each clerk gave us different info while we were at their individual stations. Be sure the bill you bring in with just your name on it showing residence is less than 3 months old or they won't accept it. At least that's what my wife's clerk told her.

c1steveFor the DMV, I always show up about an hour early. Then I am one of the first in the door, and out by 8:20 or so.

Same here plus a passport card which is what I always use to travel domestically anyway. I’ll upgrade but not in a rush.
