The style of mouse I'm looking for is wired, has a left and a right button, with a scroll wheel that is clickable, not tiltable.

This MS mouse is what I've used in the past. It lasted twelve years but you can see the ridiculous price on it now (and, oh, a buck ninety-nine shipping to add insult to injury). I've been using cheap mouses I get at the grocery store or wherever. Six bucks, and that's about what I get out of them before they die.

Does anyone know where I can find this mouse for a reasonable price?

What's wrong with your old MS mouse? I've found the microswitches under the buttons can get worn. If those switches are grooved or worn down, there are various ways to repair them. I use a Logi trackball that needs servicing every so often and it soldiers on.

I can't recall, it's been quite a while. I still have it, though, in a drawer, somewhere.

It's ridiculously priced because it's a discontinued old model. Some third party seller has an old stock one sitting on a shelf, and they figure they can gouge a prospective buyer due it being otherwise unavailable.

Current generation wired mouses (mice? meeces?) from Microsoft and others like Logitech are like $10-$20.

The primary difference between an old mouse like that and a new generation mouse is PS/2 connection support. PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse connection are old. Everything is pretty much USB wired or Bluetooth wireless now.

So if you're connecting it by USB anyway, or at least have the capability to connect by USB to your computer instead of PS/2, just get a newer generation USB-only wired optical mouse at a fraction of the cost.

USB is wired... You might be thinking of a Bluetooth wireless mouse, which does generally add additional complexity (and a bit of additional cost).

A USB mouse would plug into your computer through a wire the same way your old mouse would, just into a USB port (flat and rectangular, like you'd use with a thumb drive or a cell phone charging cord) instead of a PS/2 port (round with multiple internal holes and generally a light green color).

On the new MS version, they've added rubbery surfaces on the sides and it doesn't sound durable because of the way the rubber degrades:

I want to do nothing but help you and I think you are making a significat mistake. As for durable, yes it is durable. Strong enough in fact to shatter a 30inch monitor if thrown hard enough, and keep ticking. (It was a really bad day).

Wireless is the only way to go these days. They work extremely well and you aren't dragging a cord around across your desk or on papers.

Logitech seems to have this figured out much better than most. I've been using a wireless from them for 5 years without a single problem. It getting good and worn but from daily use and when it does give out (won't be for some time) I'll buy another one.

That's the mouse I've been using and it's head and shoulders the best thing out there.

Tain't wired, can't remember when I last used a wired mouse.

I run the Logitech M510, it' $25 bucks, wireless and has worked well for several years, is easy on battery and has the scroll button center which you can click or scroll, as well as the two side thumb buttons which you can set to do what you want.

Usually ranked well it's a budget mouse, I know you said wired however this gives me the option to put the CPU wherever I like and not be tied to a specific area for the mouse/keyboard.

They work well, no surprises, it is a two button optical wired mouse with a scroller that is a 3rd button. 2.5' cable. Cheap- 4 bucks each.

The corded mouse lives on for computer gaming. If you can get past the marketing, Razer makes some great stuff. This meets your criteria, and you might find you like the thumb buttons for going forward and back on webpages.

A Non-tilting wheel is the tricky part, I think.
The only mouse we've had at work with a click only wheel were wired Dell branded mice. Somewhat feels like it tilts, but it just clicks the wheel.

Solid mouse for office use, no complaints on them apart from users wanting to go wireless to reduce desk clutter.

Edit: I use the M510 above at home & work.
Never an issue, and like the side buttons, configured for back/forward browser control.

I have a B100 packed away somewhere I use for new/rebuilds on towers. It's nice for that but I wouldn't use it everyday as I prefer something that fills further into the palm area of the hand.

Having had 2 Microsoft wireless Intelli mice that would not die, they worked great, but I have no qualms going back to wired. The batteries lasted a long time but the whole wireless thing wore off on me and I prefer the response of wired mice.
