Back in 2007, I took a chance and quit a long time stable job to take a job where I could work from home much of the time. It worked out well enough and I made more money ... until I didn't. Turns out the boss disappeared with about half a years wages and left me with a stack of bills. Before I quit, I had saved up about half a years expenses so I handled it until that dried up and it did dry up.

I had been a member of SIGforum for 8 years or so then so I had some firearms but I was forced to sell many of them to make the mortgage payments.

I just tell you all that because after selling guns and reloading stuff, it caused me to lose interest. If you could look back from 2010 until recently, all my posts were in the Lounge. I stayed here because of the quality of the membership and ownership, this place is very unique and I appreciate it here.

I can't say that it had anything to do with depression, I don't think that's it. However, I became very apathetic towards firearms. I stopped buying and I even stopped carrying.

Recently, talking to P220 Smudge, I mentioned that I wish I could have an AR-15 again as it's really the only rifle I've ever been interested in. He got me to build a decent but inexpensive Palmetto State Armory gun out of all BLEMs. I think it totaled around $370 which was easy to justify.

Building an AR-15 helped me to understand the inner workings better than I ever had before. They're very simple machines but I never had the chance to open one up before. This restarted my interest in firearms and it is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ed!

Today I read parabellum's thread "How are you fixed for ammunition?" and I've realized that I'm way behind. Not only in buying and stockpiling ammunition, but also in firearm knowledge and ability. These are perishable skills. Being safe and knowing what to do are easy to lose. I'm not ready in any way. I really appreciate the admonishment because it's something I really needed at this moment.

On top of that my wife bought her first gun this week and she wants me to teach her to shoot. Heck, I have to relearn myself first.

I need supplies, I need ammo, I need ideas and I need training. I'm going to most likely be asking some very basic questions and asking for leads on pricing on ammo so please bear with me. I feel like I'm new to this all over again.

Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.

There’s a bot that will find ammo for you.

https://ammoseek.com/

Plug in the ammo you want and it finds it, sorts it by price and there’s a link to take you to that site.

Have her take an all Lady’s shooting class first. You both will enjoy the proficiency progression much more

Teaching a significant other can be very frustrating AND sometimes contentious for both people. Doesn’t matter if it’s shooting, skiing, cooking etc

Welcome back, have had a bit of apathy for the past two years or so as well.

That post makes me want to get back out to the range, think I'll take some inventory of items as well, need to cull a few firearms and add a few more mags for the AR/AK and Glocks ie G17 type mags.

Probably need to start buying Ammo again, but I need to see what I have stored, pretty sure that I won't need 15K rounds out here in the country, if I lived downtown or in any urban setting, but you never know we don't have any urban transportation systems like MARTA so that's a plus.

Agree find a good womans shooting group and get her enrolled it tends to work out well and reduces marital stress, who knows, she might get good enough tips to teach you Big Grin

Thank you, my friends. The gifts are not necessary but I've learned to never take the blessing of giving from a person. It's hard to accept sometimes but it's something we should actually do.

The wife is reluctant. She has a very small group of friends (basically one lady we grew up with and me) and is hesitant to allow anyone in. I'll show her this thread.

I am very patient, except when driving. Big Grin

I can understand that.

How about a 1 on 1 private lesson with a lady instructor?

I would bookmark SG, and a handful of other ammunition sites and check them daily or weekly. Once you do this over a 90 day period you’ll be just as informed as most. Then you can make the decision on when to buy and how much.

Your other option is to get into a Dillon press, and ask questions here from the knowledgeable members on how to roll your own. I don’t have the room necessary for this but I have bought rural land (my long term and permanent planning to be away from large populations for the same reason Para started that ammo thread and prepared statement) and when I can make the move and switch, I’m definitely going to be asking a bunch of questions as I fully intend to make all my own ammo, even shells. I put that in the prep category with hunting and surviving. A bunch of components, powder, well you can sustain yourself for quite a while if shit goes South.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

sign up for email from bravocompanyusa.com and palmettostatearmory.com. They have BLEM deals. I got a PSA stripped lower for $30 and a BCM stripped upper for $50. They aren’t always available at those prices but when they are the emails will tell you.

This kit and a stripped lower will get you a functioning gun:

It ain’t fancy but it’s a good start and you can upgrade parts as you’re able.
