Several brands that have only one indicator light on the dash but monitor both ABS and brake wear. The light illuminates amber for one issue and red for the other issue.

Most European cars do have a wire wear sensor on the brake pads that illuminates its own light. This is completely separate from any ABS issue. The red light that says "BRAKE" is for: low fluid; loss of pressure in one "circuit" (feeds two wheels); or the parking brake applied. Sometimes it may accompany the yellow ABS light. Maybe this is what you're thinking of.

Today one of my sons and I drove up to pick up the Honda Civic to start work on it. My sister took it out for a long drive yesterday. The car started right up, No VSA or ABS lights on. I must not have driven it long enough on Saturday to put enough charge on the battery. The owners manual did say that if your battery died, the lights would come on, but go out after driving the car and restarting it. Tomorrow, calipers, rotors and brakes. Living the Dream
