If I have one or two items I'll use them. If there is no one on line, I'll use the manned registers. The employees in the WM here are always pleasant.

I mainly use it in Lowes. The only have one or two manned registers. If buying lumber or something like loose screws, it's a pain to use the self checkout. Obviously in the Garden Center that feature isn't an option.

Self checkout is handy for quick purchases of a few grocery items, but curbside pickup is where it's at for larger grocery orders.

Build your grocery list in the Walmart app and order from the comfort of your own home. Then just pull up into the designated spot at the designated time, they load all the groceries into the back for you, and you drive off.

No wandering the aisles. No dealing with other customers. No juggling eleventeen items in the self checkout area.

The only downside is that it's not the best for produce or meat if you're looking for something very specific (like a roast of exactly X weight, or avocados that are exactly at Y level of ripeness).

I typically make one big Walmart curbside pickup grocery order each month, and supplement it with quick smaller runs at Aldi or a local grocer on other weeks.

The bottleneck is still finding the one person who has the key to the ammo cabinet when you need to neckbeard .22LR.

I always go self checkout at our grocery store and Sam's Club. Doing it at Costco irks me because they have the person right at self checkout checking your receipt to make sure you didn't steal from them, then they have the guy at the door checking a second time. Plus Costco has the damn scale to make sure you don't steal. Sam's Club you can leave it in the cart and bleep bloop it with the handheld scanner. When I put things in my cart I arrange it so it is UPC code up, I can scan everything in my cart in less than a minute, no take everything out, put everything in, small talk, WuFlu germ share, etc.

Wal Mart was staffing their stores like there was a labor shortage since the eighties. There were always long lines and I used to joke that a person could build a bonfire in front of the ammo cabinet and no still no employee would come near it. There were times I think I could have walked out with every gun they had and no one would have noticed.

I will use the wallymart for curbside pickup only of canned and bottled things, soap, cat food and litter, etc, but will NOT use wallymart for produce or meat. Engine oil, anti freeze, toothpaste, etc is ok with wallymart curbside pickup.

I use Sprouts for all my produce, and my local Crest Foods for meat and other things.

I do spend a lot at Costco, Meat there is excellent.

There is a Sprouts in the Dallas area, but it's about 15 miles from me and I'm not driving that far for groceries. I've a nice Albertson's just 2 miles away and a Kroger not much farther than that, also a Tom Thumb.

I hate self checkouts unless I’m only buying a few items. I usually only shop once every 2-3 weeks, so when I go, it’s a full cart. I tried self checkout once with a full cart and holy cow. I felt like I was racing to scan, putting them out on conveyor to the loading area, then pay and rush to bag up my stuff. It took forever. Nope. Not to mention, even when I use the self checkouts, invariably something goes wrong and a cashier has to come by and fix it.

We had to use the self checkout this last Monday because so many checkers called in sick. Peice of cake,I think we’ll do it most of the time now.

I do not shop Wal-Mart but do go to other retailers with them, avoid them if possible. I like the personal interaction with the checker.

I will always admire and respect WalMart for providing me with sustenance and nourishment during the Covid Crisis. They did a fine job of supplying inventory while complying with the "rules".

We go shopping at 8AM or so. At that point there are few other customers.

I use the self checkouts gladly. What surprised me was that I really sucked at it at first. I'm still not real good at it....those darn bags sometimes just don't want to open up.

Sam's Cola is my favorite cola.

Hooray for WalMart!

Have had better than average experiences at all three Wal Marts in my area.

The last 12 visits have been better than good.
In fact, just 4 days ago I called a store manager to let him know of my shopping satisfaction .

He was appreciative.
Retail these days is a bitch,
It's fine to call attention to problems.
But it's good to let them know that stuff is going good ,as well.

Good old Walmart...thank God I can avoid it with proper planning. Self checkout is fine as long as I don't forget my glasses.

So we stopped at Meijer today for a "few" things but by the time we finished had almost 30 items and go to the checkout area and see the "manned" checkout lines mobbed with long lines of people with full carts. Not wanting to wait half an hour for someone to bag our groceries for us we went to the self checkoout that had a linmit of 20 items because they are not designed for larger orders. I scanned and wife bagged so it did not take long and we we out of there.

It is a bit infuriating to see 7 or so manned registers open out of almost 30 the Sunday before Christmas but that is the what we see in pretty much all the stores arond here that rely primarily on manned checkout registers. Talking to employees it might be more of a problem getting the needed help than just a scheduling problem.

So glad Walmart and Woodmans out by us have gone to large self checkout areas that handle both small and large areas as I have never had to wait at either to use a checkout. I expect other stores will be looking to update too before to long or face declining customer counts.

I was checking out the other day and a guy behind me said "Hey I haven't been properly trained on how to use these machines so if I don't scan everything don't get mad."

I wonder how much is walking out the door?

I refuse to use a self checkout . That's just my personal decision . I'm old school and won't be forced into changing . For those of you that like them , I'm happy that you have that choice .

I went to the other end of the spectrum. I use distilled water for coffee and my humidifiers. But I tried to buy only 8 gallons at a time due to storage space.

But the Walmarts around here keep running out of distilled water. And I got tired of going into the store only to find no distilled water and same at the other two Walmart stores.

I decided to sign up at Walmart.com and also downloaded the app. At the very least, I place the order and it shows they're out of stock or if they take the order, I get a text that they cancelled the order because they're out of stock. Today, the order finally took and I got a text my order was ready for curbside pick up. An employee wheeled out the 16 gallaons for me in three boxes and put it in my trunk. I helped her.

I'm going to do that from now on.

That isn’t the case here. I detest Chinamart so it’s only a once or twice a year thing for me. And it’s always for some small item type thing where they are the easiest to acquire. That used to be Target before the introduced unisex bathrooms or whatever that bullshit was.

Grab “the” thing I need and maybe hit produce or the water isle for some carbonated water and I’m out. I get to self checkout, and people are on their phones, surfing it, talking on it, taking their sweet as time. The next person over is trying to operate the touch screen and it might as well be the cockpit of the space shuttle to them. It’s that difficult for them. The next person has their receipt and is done but is hell bent on scrutinizing the living fuck out of the receipt standing right in front of the machine instead of clearing out and taking whatever up with the employee standing right there supervising all the machines. The next person has a whole basket full of shit to the point the car is almost spilling over with product/food. You know that one ass hole that should go the line where someone is scanning. Nah, they want to do it all themselves and take 30 minutes.

I hate the got damn things.

I use the scan and go at Sams club as well, so much easier and faster than even the self checkout!

One, walmart should give me the employee discount, if I have to do my own checkout.

Two, walmart is making it difficult to pay cash, and crying about a coin shortage. Every single other business I've been to in four counties lately, is happy to accept cash.

I avoid walmart whenever I can. Hard to do completely, as they don't have much competition in this county.

I'm sure there are people who cheat and don't ring everything up, but Sam's club at least has a person at the door who spot checks a couple of items, nothing more.

At the Walmart I've used self checkout at, there's one Walmart employee watching over around 10 or so self checkout machines, so people could cheat.

I've had problems years ago with the self scan machines but the last few years they seem to hav ironed the problems out as I haven't had problems for a long time. Probably the best and fastest scanners are the handheld ones at Sam's Club.
