I can't get the Aux to work. I press the button and nothing happens. Nothing happens whether the radio is on or off.

It's a 2008 so it's the mini-jack type aux input. All the other buttons on the radio work. The Aux button is shared with the CD button and the CD button works fine.

I plugged a male-to-male cable and plugged it into my phone. I figured maybe it wouldn't start playing something until it had something plugged into it... thought it may sense a device but I'm probably over thinking it.

Ever thought about just replacing the radio with something newer and more feature packed (i.e. w/ Bluetooth and USB connectivity). Crutchfield has some really neat kits to make your install look almost factory.

Yes. My sister has a Scion from that era. It was a phase with Toyota. Actually I think Mini started it.

Yes. It cuts down the amount of stuff they have to move between their left hand and right hand drive models.

I had one for a rental for under an hour and drove back to the rental car place and exchanged it. It took more than a glance to check the speed since the speedometer wasn't in the middle. That was annoying, but the final straw was damned seat belt refused to disengage.

Since I couldn't tell from your original post... you've got to treat that 3.5mm cable like a headphone jack. Whatever you're playing on the phone will play through the car speakers, the radio itself is not smart enough to read what's on the device (phone, ipod, etc.) with just that connection. With a USB input yes, but just that cable, no.

Best regards,
Nick.

Did you try another cable to rule out a bad cable?

I use an Aux In jack every day in my Civic with streaming local radio, Spotify etc. You need to launch whatever you are playing first on the phone then plug in and the sound will play through the car speakers.

In my Chevy work van, as soon as I plug a cable into the jack the radio switches to "AUX", whether I have my phone connected or not. I can then switch it back to another source if I want to.

That said, I'd try a new cable first. Some cables are mono, some stereo, and some even carry microphone inputs as well. I'd check to see if you have a plain stereo cable (and that it's seating completely, if it's even a little bit out it won't work)

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

Yes, the speedo is in the middle. Big Grin It was not a fad. This is part of Toyota's "World Car" platform. Having the gauge cluster in the middle makes it easier to make the car with the steering wheel on which ever side is needed for which ever country. Big Grin

I do want to check and make sure the Aux cable is good. Haven't gotten around to it yet.

I am thinking of getting an aftermarket radio for it. It's interesting because bluetooth was never an option in the Yaris (even the newest ones) but it has the little mic grill near the overhead interior lights so I'm guessing it's an option on the car in other countries...

Did you start playing something on your phone before you hit the AUX button? Try that. A standard 3.5 six jack isn’t going to sense anything. When you hit the Aux button does the radio switch to AUX? You could always get a Bluetooth FM module and not have to change the radio. Sound wont be incredible but something tells me the speakers/radio isn’t made for acoustic excellence.

Also for AUX to work you may have to eject any CD’s as the Disc and Aux share a button.

I've noticed with all the other buttons, even if the radio is off, if a button is pressed, say the FM button, the radio will turn on.

It does not turn on when pressing the AUX button. If the radio is on, pressing the aux button does nothing.

Indeed! I have removed all CDs. I did notice, even if the CD was ejected but still sitting in the mouth of the CD player pressing the CD/Aux button would feed the CD and start playing. Had to remove it all together to make sure only using /testing the aux button.

It does take a little getting used to, that if for sure. I got it for the MPG. It's one of the highest non-hybrid MPG out there. 35 MPG all day long. I run errands on the weekend then drive all week to work on one tank and when I run the numbers 35 MPG like clock work.
