First none seem to put out much flame anymore. On some I've been able to pry off the cap to up the flame adjustment range which helped. I wasn't able to do this on the last ones I bought so max is a little 1" high flame. Makes it almost impossible to point it down to light the bottom of a burn pile. And none of them seem to last very long anymore either.

I've never tried a good refillable lighter and may have to look into them next but the blister pack of disposable ones sure are convenient because I try to leave one in every motorcycle, car, truck, shop, garage, kitchen, etc.

get a candle lighter, they have a long snout, should work with your burn pile

I don’t think there are. I ended up buying a refillable torch butane lighter. That may be a bit overkill for your purpose but I mostly use it to melt the ends of paracord. I’m sure it will light a cigar pretty well.

Yeah the long reach ones work better than the smaller Bic type ones, they're larger than I prefer but may just need to buy a dozen of them.

Back before my NYE '23 firework incident, I used to set-off mortars at midnight NYE and on Independence Day. IME, lighters suck for the reasons the OP mentioned. However, I was very impressed when my cigar smoking neighbor brought out his inexpensive cigar torch to light fireworks.

I bought this refillable butane torch and am impressed. We even had one NYE where due to wind only it and a road flare were able to light fireworks. I liked it well enough I bought a 2nd so people would quit disappearing with my torch when they borrowed it for "a minute."

That might work tator.

HRK I actually have an HF torch but I'm looking for something more pocket size preferably not too much larger than the little Bic ones.

I don't have a brand but, i use a cheap refillable butane cigar lighter.
It is not much bigger then a disposable lighter. I think I picked it up on the check out counter at my cigar shop.

I bought a refillable butane with flexible torch end at Home Depot. Works great for lighting my kerosene heaters. This might be a good option to consider.

Take a look at Bic DJEEP if you want disposable in pocket-size.

Looks like they have some groovy ‘retro’ designs, probably to still connect with the pot-heads that preferred them ‘back in the day’.

I gave up on BIC lighters years ago and turned to a small Butane lighter that has served me well for years.
It has a clear butane tank so I can easily see if its low on butane. I keep a can of butane around so a quick re-fill is possible.
I find it almost as useful as a pocket knife.
works on everything from a simple cigar lighter to melting shrink tubing on electrical projects.
Great for high wind situations.

I was not aware Bic owned DJEEP. DJEEP is far and away my favorite lighter. Short of a hard flame for cigars.

I keep a lighter in just about every bag or vehicle with no specific purpose. As a just in case thing. I have always just kept a full size Bic lighter. They are also what I use to start my charcoal starter for my grill and never had an issue. It isn’t a big flame though.

Bic lighters. When I smoked 25 years ago I would shake the lighter next to my ear to judge how much fluid was left in it.
I bought a pack of five to keep around the house recently, not a single one has any fluid in it, just a bit of gas. Probably wouldn't last two cartons! I'll buy the big stick matches.

Remember back when we never had to buy regular matches because most every business gave them away with their name on them? When you bought smokes they'd hand you a book of matches.

I stopped smoking 25 years ago and it was zippo's to be cool and djeep for when you had to have a working lighter. The brand never failed me. I still have 2 from before 2000 that work but I sort of leave them as keepsakes. You can find these at walmart but if its not near you. Amazon has some djeep with different skins.
