Our present little cold snap in a region of the country which is usually not all that cold got me to thinking about shooting with gloves on.

I'm seeking recommendations for something like this: https://ironclad.com/products/...-trigger-impact.html

That's just the first thing that came up on search. I know nothing about the brand, though these do look like decent gloves.

Any recommendations? Thanks

I actually wore my trigger finger mittens on Sunday. Fired a few shots just for kicks too. Though they're old fashioned, the wool GI trigger mittens are pretty awesome.

I wear them like regular mittens, and just let the little extra finger dangle. If I need the extra dexterity, or need to use a firearm, I just pop my pointer finger into the extra finger, and it's god to go.

I realize you're likely aware of this option, and it may not be what you're after, but I think they're worth a mention.

For those who don't know...

I can't vouch for that particular site.

I wore just the liners on Sunday. I actually forgot about the outer shell, until I looked them up just now. Good kit for the price.

They're inexpensive on amazon, and GTG. I use the "Tactical Operator Pro " for summer hiking and rock scrambling.

As I've gotten older, circulation issues due to many years of frost-nip climbing mountains has taken its toll. I"m a big-fan of the trigger-finger/3-finger style of gloves, the below are all solid, just depends upon how much insulation you want, style and gauntlet length. Given that you're looking for a shooting glove, the amount of insulation will be paramount; The North Face Summit Patrol I believe has the lowest insulation volume of the below styles. Hestra is regarded as some of the best gloves globally, however like shoes it's all about fit and what's suitable for you. Inventory is finite now that the season is over with, a search should bring-up who's got inventory as there will be no more until Sept/October.

To be clear, I am looking for something like what is pictured in the link I provided- no glove material on the tips of the thumb and first two fingers.

Those gigantic mitts will not fit inside a Glock or AR-15 trigger guard.

FWIW, the OR Arete Glove is what's issued to our guys up in Alaska....but not suited for what you're looking for.

When I had to qual with my 357Magnum in a scandium framed smith &wesson(50 rnds day and 50 night), I used a pair of bike gloves. No fingers, just padding on the palm-much like the ones you show.

While it is a different model, same company, multiple pairs over multiple years I can endorse that specific brand.

First two fingers and thumb.

Jökulríki Merino Wool Gloves 3-Cut Fingerless Gloves for Men Women Cold Weather Winter Fishing Photography https://a.co/d/5AZd9jB

I was actually looking for something knitted in Merino wool. A guitarist friend of mine uses a fingerless glove like that on outside solo gigs on cold/cool nights, at least until his hands warm up some. But, ran across just what you asked for instead. Cheap to try at $20.

Now I am admittedly confused. Don't most of us shoot with gloves on often?

Gloves are for warm weather as much as they are for cold. The gloves Para shared in his OP are not for cold weather, but cold weather is the application he implied. Sure, a glove missing some fingers on a chilly day is better than no glove at all but if we're considering something for when it is actually cold, the fingers need to be present.

During training events in Alaska, it was common practice that the warm gloves didn't survive first contact. They'd be stuffed in pockets in favor of light duty gloves with more dexterity, or no gloves at all. After the maneuver was finished, and a patrol posture was resumed, the warm gloves or mittens went back on. Lanyards were also used to retain heavier gloves or mittens when they were not preferred.

These were the light duty issued gloves in AK. Not designed for warmth, but are better than nothing. They were worn year round, serving in the "action" role during training in winter months, but living in your pocket otherwise, in favor of warmer gloves or mittens.

A layered approach is logical. A very thin base layer worn under something heavier permits quick access to still-protected dexterity.

Also a mitten that has the flip-back portion that serves to expose your digits might be practical.

These were the issued glove that was a mid weight...

You're going to have trouble shooting the Glock with those, but handling and firing an AR15 is doable.

Both of these OR gloves are sold on eBay regularly for WAY less than OR advertises them for at those links.

Search for 'framer gloves' on Amazon or other websites.

I use these, more for abrasion and impact protection than cold:

https://www.amazon.com/Mechani...ref=sr_1_6_pp?sr=8-6

Possibly get dedicated cold weather gloves and custom- cut the fingers yourself:

I have always used Mechanix Wear Fast Fit gloves. They are four full fingers, but thin. I don't like the MX Wear Original, as the Velcro tighten strap always gets in the way. LAPolicegear.com is a pretty good source for these.

I do like the idea of the two open fingers, though, and not just for shooting. They would be better for tasks requiring dexterity. Problem would be the cold if outside for a long time.

Some of the thin winter touchscreen gloves would work well also. Widely available on Amazon For example:

I've been wearing these daily for 4 months out of the year for work, for the past 15 or so years. Get about 3 years out of a pair. I need to have dexterity in cold weather, as well as impact protection. And I have used them to shoot in the past.

If Outdoor Research military gloves interest you, go onto EBay. I just bought a full on heavy winter glove set from OR for... 39 bucks.

That style of glove, with the thumb and first two fingers exposed, are commonly known as "framer's gloves or "fishing gloves". Might help your search.

I wear these on patrol during the winter:

Not super durable like the Mechanix ones, but they're a bit thinner and warmer.

I need my finger and thumb free for thumbprint readers, trackpads, touchscreens, and triggers.

I clicked RogueJSK's link and found that if you select the color green, you save $5/pair.
Click the box that says "coupon" and save another $1.50/pair.

I’ve been using Mechanix gloves to shoot in for over a decade. They are pretty thin and work extremely well. Keep them in the range bag.

Not exactly like mentioned above, my favorites are the ‘Nomex flight gloves’. They are made to have great feel moving switches, no real need for a bare trigger finger.

Depending on the activity, good down to 35 degrees or so.

They usually have them at Home Depot, Lowes, and auto parts stores.
Get the ones with the fingers, and cut them where YOU want them. Hit the ends with a lighter to melt the fabric so they don't frey on you.

I've used nomex flight gloves as well. I really like them, and always have an extra pair in my range bag.
I usually land up cutting the fingers off of them too.
