Right now we are insuring our sports car through the same company that insures our house and daily drivers. I’m sure there’s a good reason why companies like Hagerty exist though, and wonder if Forum members who own specialty cars have found that going with a carrier that focuses on cars like these makes sense.

If it is a classic or antique car, I believe Haggerty makes sense. You can set he annual mileage to any reasonable figure and thus adjust your costs.

I used them when I had vintage BMW's. Satisfied with them and they believe in supporting the collectors of the USA.

More importantly, Haggerty will let you agree upon a value with them that is being insured. Takes the uncertainty out of what your actual coverage might actually be in the event of a total loss for a car that NADA and the like are irrelevant.

Your OP title included Classic, I'm assuming that for this reply. If you just have a "fancy" car, your normal carrier may still be best.

Yes, it included “Classic,” but the other categories as well. Our car is a 997.1 Carrera 4S. Is that just “fancy” to you?

I use American Collectors Insurance for all of my insured's that have classic cars. They are easy to deal with and their rates are fair. They may not always be the cheapest (but never out of line) but they have almost always let the insured and company agree on a value of the car based on photos provided.

I believe I had American before switching to Hagerty because American restricted was qualified as appropriate use. I've got our 59 Impala covered by Hagerty for $320/year with an agreed upon value of $45K. I just dink around with it. No parades etc., just trips to frozen yogurt etc.

J.C. Taylor is another provider of agreed value coverage for antique cars. We have paid them a pittance over the previous dozen years for peace of mind.

Well, since that means it's no older than 2002 it's certainly not "classic" by their definition. They do also cover special interest and exotics in some instances, so worth applying.

So, yeah, it's fancy and old. Razz

10 years old, low mileage, and a unique color that apparently added value (I know we paid enough for it)— Wink

While not antique or a classic I found that AAA was the cheapest for my 73 Nova when bundles with my other 2 cars abd home insurance. It’s only about $100 a year for agreed value of $6000. I’m sure once you start talking significant value things might change.

That’s funny stuff. In my 20’s in the mid 90s I had a 65 vette. The insurance per month was more than the car payment. Being a declared non insurable by my state farm agent due to too many tickets and having to go through a Broker for some 3rd tier coverage made it unreasonable. Now 20+ years later and a clean record and a responsible, non claims filing homeowner for many years, when I texted my guy about a newer used vette recently it was quoted as cheaper than my new Tacoma. Go figure

Haggerty on our 57. Used the free tow service a couple of times, no issues. Would recommend.

USAA uses American as their partner for classics.

Hagerty, been with them since about 1995.

Hagerty allows limited pleasure driving, that was the reason I switched to them. My previous insurer restricted driving to shows, cruises, parades, for the public good. No stopping at the store while out for a couple things on the way to or from, no leaving the car unattended at an event.

Hagerty's claims procedure, well the last time I used it, 2004 the whole process was easy. I called in the claim, collision shop sent in an estimate with photos. Repairs authorized and paid to the shop.

I know it’s not a “classic.” It’s our touring car (also in the thread title), and I referred to it as a “sports car” in the first post, which might be debatable as well. The heart of the matter is a discussion of insuring a car that is among those above, not driven daily.

Another Haggerty guy here. I think I pay around 500.00/yr for an agreed upon value of 55k for my Roadrunner. Had a small claim about 4 yrs ago and they were great.
