A buddy of his had his own small lawn care operation, and several months ago was rearended by a large truck. This accident destroyed the majority of his equipment and put him out of work for a short while during his recovery.

My customer owns a small resale shop in a rural area and occasionally buys storage lockers for inventory. A couple of weeks ago he ran across an auction that caught his eye. Right up front was a nice backpack mounted leaf blower and a weedeater. He knew his friend could use these to get his lawn business back up and running. In addition, he saw a nice wood table top which he thought he could sell at his shop.

He bought the locker for $170.

He said he was a bit disappointed when they arrived to clean the unit out and found that what he thought was a table was actually part of a desk. In addition to the desk, there were another 6 pieces that made an entire office suite. He didn't really think he would have a market for that at his shop, and offered it to the storage facility manager for $100 so he didn't have to mess with it.

He told his friend he could have the blower and string trimmer for the $70 he was still invested in the unit, and didn't even have to pay him now. He could have the equipment and pay the $70 when he was back firmly on his feet financially.

The storage facility came and got their desk and other furniture, which exposed the remainder of the items in the unit, none of which were visible in the photos. As his wife started climbing over things to get a handle on what was left, she saw a large plastic case, picked it up, and asked him what it was.

It was a rifle case. Soon after that she noticed another stack of them. Behind that stack was a small gun safe.

He told me that he had already sold $13,000 worth of rifles prior to calling me to get the safe open. He didn't know if there would be anything in the safe since so many rifles were cased outside of it. He laid the safe onto his trailer, and it didn't make any noise. He figured it was empty, but it still had value once open.

I show up to get it open, and it's still on its back on the trailer. I stood it upright, and like he said, it sounded empty.

It sounded empty because all of the guns within were packed so tight they couldn't really move. Nice stuff. A few older Colt ARs. Several Colt 1911s. Several Remington 700s. Leupold glass on almost all of the rifles. I figured there was another $25,000 to $30,000 worth of firearms in the safe.

All his, because he was trying to do something nice for a friend in need.

Sometimes there's good karma too. Good on him. Did he go and buy some lottery tickets?

Wow!
The Mrs. and I follow a couple locker buyers on YewToob and it's rare that an actual safe contains anything of value.

Since he had scored 30+ grand out of his $170 dollar investment I hope he gave his friend the blower and trimmer.

That’s so awesome! Great reward for his good deed, for sure.

I can’t help but wonder how a storage locker full of guns was just up for auction? Was it the belongings of old grandpa when he went into the nursing home, and then he held on so long the surviving family didn’t know what he had? Or maybe someone with no NOK at all? Might be an interesting story there.

I would be putting aside a decent percent of items sold and give to the guy I was trying to help for bringing such a windfall my way.

As stated, this guy pay have penned the storage unit from what he first saw, excepts he saw an opportunity to help his friend.

In any event, he still is solid for having the guy in mind when he saw a way to help.

Kudos to him.

If I had to make an educated guess, I suspect the previous owner was either hospitalized or put into a home due to age and didn't come home.

If you ever watch these sales it's very common to see "old people stuff".

He was on the phone with several friends while I was there. Sounded like they were all on the way over to pick something out. He also offered me to select one in exchange for opening the safe, but I told him everything he had was worth much more than what I was charging him, and I just accepted my original quote.
