I have had those and they are very good.
I also have a local grocery store chain that does them and I might be inclined to say these are better than Costco.
I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

Yes. Out of the freezer. Rubbed with warm-ish butter that stiffened up as it froze to the crust.
Two hours at 225°. Only reason the lid was ever opened was to take pics for you guys.
Love those pies. Perfect size for my lunch.
Gonna try a new way now.
Literally, now. It’s 0830 and i just fired up my Traeger.

bald1Funny Noah,
I'd never had one of these Marie Calendar chicken pot pies before but recently picked up a pair to see what all the fuss was about. Did a single pie in the air fryer which produced a nice flaky crust. Wasn't bad at all.

oddballMaybe you can describe the difference in taste between a regular oven method and your smoking method. It does look awesome.

tatortodd^^^ I've been contemplating picking up a couple and comparing for myself. Butter 'em both up. Put one in the oven at 225, and put one on the BGE at 225.

It's about the same difference between the flavor of a pot roast, cooked in the oven, vs. a brisket that has smoked all day long.
It's really smokey and buttery and delicious, if you like smoked meats and stuff.

BytesGonna throw one in tomorrow for sure. I can't believe I hadn't thought about a pot pie. I've smoked an apple pie (delicious FYI) but never a pot pie. Thanks for starting this thread!

jer830Great post. I never thought of smoking them. Thanks for sharing. These are a staple in our house. I like the chicken and the wife likes the beef. We get the larger ones at the market when they run 2 for 7.00. I pick up a bag of Idahoan buttery instant mashed potato’s. Boil water, mix and good to go. I put a couple scoops in a bowl and put the pot pie on top. With a small salad on the side you have a easy peasy meal. Thanks again.

BeancookerFour more in the smoker as we speak. I’ll wrap them for a nuke-able lunch for next week.
Then I’ll smoke some chicken breasts that’ll go into some enchiladas I am making for dinner.
Grill some lamb chops for Mia and dinner will be set as it can get.
I love lazy Saturdays of cooking shitloads of food.

Pipe SmokerThere’s a restaurant here named the “San Diego Chicken Pie Shop.” It sounded promising so, several years ago, I gave the place a try. Big disappointment. In general, the pie wasn’t very appealing, and in particular it had no peas. Peas are an
essential chicken pot pie ingredient. Maybe I ought to try the place again…

ArtieSThose pies are good. Very good. Want to make them better? Just before you eat them, knock a little hole in the top, and pour in some heavy cream or half and half. When you break the pie open, stir well. Cuts the salt a bit, and enhances the gravy. It's like magic.

Hmmmm, <taking notes>, hmmmm, sounds interesting. I'll give this a shot next time I cook up some pot pies. Thanks!

ATLASThose things are good being cooked in a microwave. I don’t have a smoker, I’ll try some butter and the oven next time.
