The recent loss of two valued members brought this to mind. In my case I made a bequest in my will to Para to help maintain SIGforum as it currently is, so he’ll know.

I have an envelope in my safe marked "Things to do when I assume room temperature" (really...)

Among other things, there is a short list of forums to notify.

While I appreciate the people and their thoughts on this forum, I don’t want to add another to-do item for the people I’m leaving behind.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I also have an envelope with my log-in details and a pre-worded script for my son in law to use attached to my will.

I've thought about this a lot and it's about time I actually do something.

Hmmmm ... Maybe a script that requires a check-in at specified intervals. Failure to check in would release an announcement that the member is no longer with us.

That’s a negative.

Many members who have not posted for a looooong time are not “no longer with us”. Wink

In order to better track posting history, in order to be entered into the "are you dead yet" database monitoring system, you need a minimum weighted average score based on level of career and personal achievement (business owner, physician, aviator, astronaut, career Military/LEO/Fire/Rescue, etc.), long term success convincing a woman you're worth keeping around, how cool you are, how interesting and engaging your posts are, if you are (aka were) a Navy Seal or Army Delta force (regardless of your other attributes), those sorts of things.

If after so many missing posts, the database will kick out a new thread titled "Where the heck is so-and-so...".

If there aren't enough responses with positive responses regarding said poster's positive history, respect for his service to the better nature of the human condition, and other positive attributes along those lines, that poster's account will be removed from the database without an audit record of said removal.

If however there are lots of positive inspirational remembrances of your personal, professional, and long history of helpful posts on the Great Sigforum, your account will be transferred into the Sigforum "Special Dispensation Golden Ticket Database". From there your remembrance will remain a permanent record representing the best of the Great Sigforum. Once per year a record will be randomly drawn automatically generating a new post reminding everyone how much you are missed, unless someone already mentioned your name in a positive manner during the previous 365 days.

If you're not included in either of those databases, a final score will be assigned based on an algorithm to calculate the number of responses including phrases like "Who's that again...", "Don't remember that guy", or "Meh", you will be remembered in some other creative way, perhaps being included in the "who was that guy" database, so that the Great Sigforum will never be accused as a forum with the least amount of interesting characters in the history of humankind".

So anyway that's a start, but we're certainly open for additional suggestions.

I have a couple of long time friends who are members. I'm pretty sure one of them would let you all know.
